Gutted. Oh well, not a bad run really, and a few good points

GSM Mathieu 6-2 6-3

Failure to convert his opportunities ultimately cost Ward.

FQR: (q18) James Ward WR 160 lost to (q10) Paul-Henri Mathieu (FRA) WR 123 (CH 12 in 2008) by 2 & 3

Still, he got as far as his seeding and picks up a few more points. Pity he couldn't push PHM a bit closer though.

I didn't watch the match, but if PHM was on form, it would have been quite an ask of Mr Ward to win. Not impossible - it's always a pleasure to look at the players he's beaten! - but an ask. Anyway, good to see his ranking improve (again) - and really good that so far this year he's been playing a lot of bigger tournaments. Got to be an encouragement!

And now Ward has got a LL place due to Del Potro injury!

Great news! Will Ward receive any points for playing if he loses? Seems odd as its a R2 match, also what's the deal with prize money?
