RE: 2014 female ranking predictions

Glad to see I've recovered slightly, to just outside the relegation zone...

Hopng to stay in a Champions League place. Not that bothered about actually winning the title, just really wanting the glamour of picking my wits against say Spanish predictors.

I think I need to make some major investments before the January transfer window closes . . .

With Harriet confirmed in the top 10 for a week Monday ( well done, her ) I'm going to have 7 of the 10. So, not bad.

Laura, Anna S and Jade will miss out to the inclusion of Emily, Katie B and Harriet.

So, I think I can be excused the 3 that won't make it for varying reasons. Emily and Katie are well in though, so had not enough faith in the lovely stickability of Emily nor how much Katie would push forward.

Thought next year perhaps  we could award a bonus point if you get your world ranking prediction spot on.

This year maybe just give an honourable mention to anyone who hits the bulls-eye. Bulls-eye scores 50, but will "50" give you a bulls-eye?? wink

Now a bulls-eye bonus could be an interesting late curveball, especially if a big one.

Must be a fair chance that even excluding Andy at least one person would manage it, thinking of the number of separate predictions and that many will at least be in the ball park. If Andy has a pretty good year then he might produce quite a few.

Whether it should be so big that it could take someone from last to first ?

Oh yes ! I need all the jokers possible.

I'd got Andy down as number 5, everyone else at 4 or higher. No idea of the maths but is it possible he could finish right at no 5 ? Or if he's 6th, could I qualify for a mega bonus as nearest guess ?

NB Also, what about a booby prize ? Minus 50 ? I'm nominating myself as the only person who actually predicted a top 10 entry for someone who didn't even finish the year in the top 1000 ! (Well, just . .. ) Had a punt that Josh G would miss tennis and come straight back - got that wrong :)

Andy could most certainly finish WR 5. In fact he will be in running no 5 on Sunday night if he beats Kei, earning 200 points.

WR 4 is possible though Stan starts 420 points ahead.

4 Wawrinka 4895
5 Nishikori 4625
6 Murray 4475
7 Berdych 4465
8 Raonic 4440
9 Cilic 4150

But this is not "next year" :)

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly  Mandy Carreras is the "last woman standing" who can influence the GB top 10 final table. Currently at no.10 for the end of next week a win tomorrow will move her up-to 9 and winning the final to 8.

Now no.9 would suit me just  finebiggrin

Naomi Broady appears to still be down for the Dubai 75K next week. If she does compete there and if ( maybe a bigger if ) she reaches the SF she will overtake Jo for the no 2 spot.

As for Mandy, she's absolutely fine at no 10 :) Then she can win to her heart's content after this week.

The final scores are now counted for the women.

We have 2 winners of the Bulls-eye competition: Kundalini spot on for Heather Watson  and Reeltime with Katy Dunne.

Special mention to Mervatron for being the only person to predict that Emily Webbey-Smith be in the top 10.

There was going to be another special mention for all those young talent spotters who predicted Katie Boulter and Harriet Dart's rise into the top 10 but sadly there is no-one to highlight......

(Now I know there were injuries etc.  but EWS would still have been no.10 if Laura, Lisa, Jade and Anna had all finished above her and Katie 11)

36pts to win it, just shows what a lottery predicting the girls was this year.

now, now - that could come across as sour grapes smile

I think we should just accept our positions in the relegation zone and and go down to div. 2 where, hopefully, all those audience members of Countless will be, the ones who'd never heard of Mandy, or Jade, or practically anyone else besides Laura and, possibly, Heather. We might stand a chance then . . .

Ah, get to share the bronze. That's at least a pick me up after the trauma of 4th place in the men's contest.

Congratulations to Korriban here and to Ratty for his win in the men's.
