After some further alarms Izzy comes through. In round 3 she is seeded to play the strong second seed Ivana Jorovic, but she has just dropped the opening set against an American wildcard.
Girls R2
Siqi Cao (CHN) d. Emily Arbuthnott (GBR) 6-3 6-1
(16) Isabelle Wallace (GBR) d. (Q) Jessica Golovin (USA) 3-6 6-2 6-2
Izzy should be proud of how she has performed these past 3 weeks. In each event she has met or exceeded the expectations of her ranking:
Yucatan - seeded to make the QF which she achieved
Eddie Herr - seeded to go out in the 1st round, she knocked out a seed but went out in round 2
Orange Bowl - seeded to make the 3rd round which she achieved
She also took out Rianna Valdes in Mexico who had beaten her comfortably in August and at Eddie Herr she took out a top 50 Russian in round 1. Each of her losses were three setters (although each ended in a 6-1 final set against her) to decent players:
Yucatan - Cisernos who won the event
Eddie Herr - Cristian who made the SFs and took out Tornado Black in straight sets on the way
Orange Bowl - Jorovic who recently won the Osaka Grade A
To add a pinch of salt, she has not marked herself out as a future slam champion, but she has done well and I for one am excited to see how she fares in junior slams next year.
Interesting year, though. First time I can remember in a while that not only had most of the top 18s effectively abandoned juniors by mid-year, but even most of the top 17s (Coric, Quinzi, Garin, Kokkinakis, Khachanov) had left after the US Open.
Just to note that ex-Brit Naiktha Bains won the girls doubles here with Tornado Alicia Black, having won the girls doubles at the Eddie Herr with Anna Bondar.
