There'll be full results at the end of the day but worth noting that Holly Thompson has put out the fourth seed from France.

A special note to for the wild-card Lauryn John-Baptiste who's only 14 (born July 1999) and who beat the girl two years her senior from Romania. Lauryn is the girl who inadvertently caused all the fuss when free use of the courts at Roehampton was suddenly rescinded - and then the LTA did an about-turn.

Lauryn's section opened up with both the French girl mentioned by Coup Droit and seventh seed Mia Smith (to Hannah Brett) out. No problems for top seed Holly or Nastya, but another fancied '99 Ellie-Rose Griffiths lost

Round 1 completed with one more seed out - the Norwegian 8th seed well beaten by qualifier Megan Davies

At last - a tournament on my doorstep(5 min drive). I didn't think Wavertree was big enough or good enough to host a tournament... Might nip down to watch the finals on Saturday.

Youngster Lauryn John-Baptiste carried on her run, beating Hannah Brett 63 6-1

But Anastasia Mikheeva (3) lost to Eden Richardson.

Holly Hutchinson and Holly Thomson also came through (there were THREE Holly-s in the initial draw!) as did Ceire Mullins.

"Youngster" John-Baptiste is actually the same year as Mikheeva, Burrage, Thomson and Davies.  They are all 99s

Nastya did well earlier in the year, winning one Nottingham title and only losing to Freya Christie in the other, but has struggled to reach the latter stages of ITFs since. 6 Brits and Russian twins make up the quarters.

QF

(1) Holly Hutchinson v (6) Elena Antonova (RUS)
Holly Thompson v (WC) Lauryn John-Baptiste
(WC) Jodie Anna Burrage v Eden Richardson
(5) Ceire Mullins v (2) Marina Antonova (RUS)

Really good to see from the two 14 yos. Jodie's dob is 28/05/99 ( exactly as Anastasia's ) and Lauryn's dob is 26/07/99.

Err, strangely enough the two Russian semi finalists also have exact same dobs, 10/06/98.

Apparently, even in Russia it's not that strange for twin sisters to be born on the same day wink

Lets hope at least one of the girls can cause an upset. Don't really want to see a set of Russian twins playing on Saturday.

Looks like Jodie won, but Lauryn got beat.

So Jodie has the task of beating twins in consecutive matches - a challenge which has occurred a few times before to British players, including Laura Robson v Pliskovas in the Australian Open (also semi/final). Eden wins her first ITF title

SF:

(6) Elena Antonova (RUS) d. (WC) Lauryn John-Baptiste 3-6 6-4 6-2
(WC) Jodie Anna Burrage d. (2) Marina Antonova (RUS) 6-1 6-4

F:

(6) Elena Antonova (RUS) v (WC) Jodie Anna Burrage

Doubles Final

Byrne/Richardson (IRL/GBR) d. (WC) Davies/John-Baptiste (GBR) 6-2 6-2

The Wild Cards have certainly acquitted themselves well. Nicely done.
