Sorry, Steven, I realised afterwards that it may have looked as if I was saying you were calling it an "appaling week", when I do appreciate you yourself did actually put the week in much more context. i And Gary, other than Marcus, I would never have thought beforehand that any of the Brits here were really ready for seriously considering challengers. It just isn't a representative lineup. See next week for many GB players, who have been playing futures this year, and are now more ready for the step-up.
Let's hope a GB player makes the final
Marzi v George Morgan
Gonna go for GM to win assumming he can repeat yesterday's form
I had a chat with K oakleys Slovakian opponent yesterday . His sister was phoning her daughters school apparently they all had food poisoning Which would explain the w/o
I think thats KO's 4 win in 24 outings a 17% win ratio So that W/O was a huge bonus for the young man from
No Salmon, this can't become the Mike Powell of futures threads.
Because the previous one hasn't become the Bob Beamon of threads ! It hasn't ( as it looked as if it might ) set a record in the 400 odd replies, totally missing out the 300s.
Looking ahead to the Scotland Davis Cup team ( in truth I sincerely hope not ! ), we are a bit struggling for a second singles player ( yes, much more than even GB have ! ). Watching Jonny O'Mara's progress with interest.
I'd say we are pretty well covered in the doubles department with Murray Bros and Colin.
The rules say that if a nation eligible to take part "ceases to exist, is divided into two or more nations or is absorbed in whole or in part by another nation," its place "shall be taken by a nation to be selected by the Davis Cup committee in accordance with the most recent Davis Cup Nations Ranking" from the newly-created nations and the nations at the next level down (i.e. WGPO losers for a World Group vacancy, Group II teams for a Group I vacancy, etc), with the other nations having to start in Group IV.
So, if GB split when they were due to take part in the World Group, it looks like the committee would have the discretion to:
1) Put the reduced GB team in the World Group and Scotland in Europe/Africa Group IV 2) Put Scotland in the World Group and the reduced GB team in Europe/Africa Group IV 3) Put the highest-ranked WGPO losers in the World Group and both reduced GB and Scotland in Europe/Africa Group IV
It's not entirely clear whether they would still have this latitude if Scotland split off and the rest of the UK underwent no official change of name/status, rather than two completely new nations being created.
As to what would happen if GB reached the DC semis next year and then there was a vote for independence ... the rules aren't clear about that.
I too hope none of this ends up being relevant, not for GB anyway!

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Looks like yesterday's pep talk might have worked !
George Morgan & NeilPauffley ( the vicar ) compliment each other very well and felt that could be a tough match - apparently it was a high quality match with the A1 1st going through 6-3 6-4
I think after the disappointment of the singles the lads are keen to get their 7th doubles title of the year .
Lewis is on a unusual A1 bonus if they lift the title which involves a blind date with a rather attractive blond lady from Australia
Its unusual incentive but it appears its one that young Lewis is keen to take advantage of ! Lol
