FQR results:

Bruce STRACHAN (GBR) 6-4 6-1 Samm BUTLER (GBR) [1]
Nick EECKELAERS (GBR) 6-2 6-2 Scott DUNCAN (GBR) [2]
David PORTER (GBR) [3] 7-5 6-1 Vincent GILLESPIE (GBR)
Harry SKINNER (GBR) 6-2 6-4 Stefan STERLAND-MARKOVIC (GBR)
Jack PATERSON (GBR) 6-3 6-2 Allan MCCLURE (GBR)
Samuel TAYLOR (GBR) 7-6(5) 7-6(8) Sam HOLT (GBR)
Tom ALLEN (GBR) 6-4 4-6 6-1 Oliver BRENNAN (GBR)
Chris ANGUELOV (BUL) 7-6(5) 3-6 6-3 Adam BARRATCLOUGH (GBR)

quite a few, on the face of it, surprising results there . .

Not really. Butler and Duncan are both seeded because they have a single ranking point which they gained against unranked opposition. A single ranking point is often pretty meaningless in assessing a player.

wonder if Bruce Strachan will actually get that elusive ranking point.

I watched him play Orton at Wrexham where he lost 6-4 in the third and I was quite impressed with his game.

and he has a very nice professional blog (as part of his training contract with the Paul Lawrie foundation) !

Still think Rob might be tricky if he's on song . ..

I think Rob Carter is one of those players outside the top 25 to watch and could progress significantly in the next 12 months with the right support.

The others in this category to follow and watch their progress are Coupland, Bambo, Hoyt, Norrie, Morgan, O'Mara, Glasspool and there are probably a few more in there too.

Just seen the draw and wouldn't be suprised to see a few upsets.

Wouldn't be suprised to see an injury prone Bloomers get turned over to Jathan Malik and an out of form Tom F lose to George

Can see Marcus Daniell causing Ashley problems in the top half, but in all honesty if Josh G is committed and playing half decently he should go a long way this week. The top 2 seeds are out of form.

If the likes of Corrie, Cox, Alex Ward, Hewitt & Willis can leave Futures tournaments behind (well $10ks at least) entirely or in some cases by the middle of next season, it certainly leaves the GB Futures scene wide open for some of your picks (plus Gabb, Farquarson, Broady, JWH etc from inside the top 25) to hoover up wins and SF/Finals in their place. Someone new is going to emerge as the next Corrie or Cox "GB Futures Warrior" for sure.

Coupland Farqson looks a good one along with Malik Bloomfield. Good point Korri re the players who've moved up the rankings
I fancy Coups and Carter to move up the rankings over the next year. Not sure who will win tomorrow but reckon might get reasonable odds on Coups.
Goodall, Hewitt for me in the final if Goodall fitness holds up.

I'd like S Taylor to get a point as I played him once (lost obviously) and it would be nice to say I lost to someone who was eventually ranked.

Yep, I think so. Someone from LSE, I seem to remember; said that the Bulgarian had a bit of a temper on him too (mega apologies if I've got the wrong guy . .. )

Talking of blasts from the past, James Feaver was at the Linz WTA player party (based on a pic Nik tweeted of them all dressed in 70s costumes) - I wonder if he is a hitting partner for someone these days.

Is james Feaver the Jamie Feaver who's a coach down at Team Bath ? Maybe he's there to help Mel and Sam ?
