QF: (5) Richard Gabb WR 477 defeated (JE) Nikola Milojevic (SRB) WR 842 by 4 & 2
Another superb, clinical victory!
That really is a very good performance indeed against a notable junior (ex junior probably now) who has had an immediate impact on the Futures circuit post US Open. From 1-4 down first set Richard just took off with 4 breaks to zero. Fantastic effort!
He is doing this sort of thing so regularly now, but the SFs and FIs just seem to be a step too far for Richard at present (although he certainly makes them competitive). Let's hope he has a breakthrough this week; he deserves it.
I agree - that result looks very impressive. The semi could be tricky, Ghedin is no mug.
He beats lower ranked players with ease, but when he gets to semi's and finals he struggles to get over the winning post. I'm not sure if this is due to ability of a psychological issue.
Would be interested to see how Richard fares in challenger qualifying in a couple of weeks.
Richard equally clinical in the doubles (living up to the ranking I'd made a point of checking before I posted details of his & Simon's first-round match, perhaps ) :
SF: Richard Gabb & Tobias Simon (GER) UNR defeated (2) Markos Kalovelonis & Konstantinos Mikos (GRE/GRE) CR 1769 by 3 & 3
Richard 2-6 *0-2 down. He reaches SFs with unerring regularity, but seems to have a real difficulty in taking the next step at this point. Today's opponent is certainly beatable given Richard's very good form, but not looking good so far. It will happen Richard! Keeping putting yourself into weekend matches at you will break through soon.
