I've merged the other two Marcus-related threads into this one (although I realise it's rather unfair to Marcus to imply that the 'English hate a winner' one has anything to do with him), so the thread may now be even more incoherent - sorry about that.

Anyway, given how Doumbia has been doing against other players these last two weeks, this looks like a very good win It makes Marcus  provisional GB no. 11 (i.e. before any points from next week's Challengers get added for other players) on Monday week.

He has also now reached 101 points in the ATP Race, though 2 of those points are post-WTF last year, so he is still 1 point short of a century in 2013 itself. He would be the 8th Brit to pick up 100+ ATP singles points in 2013 alone and rise to provisional GB no. 8 if he can win the Final.

SF: (3) Marcus Willis WR 415 beat (Q) Sadio Doumbia (FRA) UNR (CH 1461 in 2007) by 3 & 3

FINAL: (3) Marcus Willis WR 415 v Ivo Klec (SVK) WR 587 (CH 184 in 2006)

The two finalists have met once before, in Ottershaw back in 2009. Klec, then the 5th seed, beat unseeded Marcus 6-2 7-6(8) in R2 and went on to win the title - revenge would no doubt be sweet!

Agreed. Its always great to get an "inside" perspective. Scorelines don't always tell the full story and any extra info can help dispel any speculation or misinformation. (I think that's why tit-bits or match reports from anyone who's attended a match are always so well appreciated.)

I hope you do come back and share Marcus' journey and your progress with him.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy - he serves an ace at 30-30 and then takes his first match point.

6-3 6-3 with far better serving stats than Doumbia

Good stuff, Marcus (and team!)

Excellent and sorry to do this but - considering the inevitable heat and niggling back injury Marcus's FITNESS seems to be holding up rather well!

Perhaps it is important to note how well his fitness is holding up in the light of all the attacks on his fitness.

Exactly Marcus has definitely demonstrated his fitness in tough conditions He is extremely strong

Regularly burns 1200 calories on a cross trainer in 60 minutes that's quite a feat .

He has a beep test and starts new conditioning regime 2nd week of October , with morale sky high I am confident will see a fitter , stronger Marcus unleashed in 2014 !
