R1: MCMINN, Lauren (GBR) Q UNR lost to SIROTKINA, Marta (RUS) 6 164 6-2 6-1

R1: REN, Jessica (GBR) LL 1009 lost to DANIELS, Carolin (GER) 474 6-1 6-3

Jess was 3-1 and BP up in the second but somehow it slipped away rather fast.

Sam plays Martina Borecka WR 425 next - she beat the Czech player 4-6 7-5 6-0 in Bath last year

Mel has started well. Excellent run to pick up a drop shot (let's hear it for those fitness blocks) and some great deep hitting. Bit early yet (2-2) but good tennis.

Mel had lots of BPs at 3-3 but Ana played very well to save them.

Mel lost 6-3 6-2 but it was a very good match from both women. Excellent level.

(Squeaky Oceane is gone too)

Both Beth and Katie lost their first sets, not surprisingly, to the far higher ranked French women.

Beth and Katie both went on to lose in straight sets, but took 6 games each off top seed Feuerstein & former top 60 player Coin respectively, which seems more than respectable under the circumstances.
