RE: Week 38 - ITF ($25K) - Shrewsbury, UK Hard

Noami has just lost 4 games on the trot in the second set, having been 3-0 up. First set lost 7-5

So it looks like just 2 GB girls into the second round.

Can the LTA justify putting on 25K tournaments in the UK?

Hev and Laura are too highly ranked to play

Joko has bigger ambitions and will soon be too highly ranked to play

Elena seems to be semi retired

Amanda is playing clay tournaments

So that leaves us with Sam, Tara, Naomi, Lisa, Jade and Emily as possibles to be competitive at this level. No-one else is coming through the ranks.

In fact Sam and Tara may have bigger tournaments in mind in 6-12 months time...

Oh c'mon just because of these results and the general rankings positions at the moment, the LTA should drop 25Ks ??

I'm tempted to say, knowing what's happened to men's challengers in GB, don't encourage them !

Does Jess Ren get a ranking point as a LL R1 loser. I wouldn't expect her to get any added qualifier points ( i.e. the additional 1 point from R2 onwards ), but did think she would get the 1 ranking point that all the other R1 losers get.

Just I see that she is not currently being credited a ranking point in the top 25 table ?

Joss and Anna won 7-5 6-3. Great win, was a pleasure to watch them. Seems as though they are taking their partnership quite seriously.

Any chance of Joss Rae playing singles.

That gives Harriet a doubles ranking for the first time.

Just caught a shot of Em nailing a drive volley in the corner of the Sirotkina-Miyazaki stream. Better than nothing I guess...

Emily is getting zillions of BPs (well, 12) but only got 1 converted so far.

C'mon !

Add: and, yes, pockytastic - we should get them under the trade descriptions act - telling me it's Emily playing and finding someone completely different !

I'm not saying they should, but will probably replace the majority with 10K's if they keep the same policy as the men. A couple of years ago it was probably justified with a few more girls competitive at this level.
