RE: Girls: US Open Juniors - Grade A (Week 36)

Katie the first to finish with a comprehensive 6-1 6-2 win over the talented but inexperienced American.

Katy has also started well leading 6-3 2*-1

Katy duly follows suit winning 6-3 6-1. A nice draw, but any draw can be tricky when you have played as little as Katy has recently

Both girls have their doubles coming up later, as do Izzy Wallace and Harriet Dart, so let's hear it for girl power . . .

Both face tricky second round matches. Katy's opponent won her last tournament, a $10K, whilst Mertens has been consistently strong this year winning a $10K and a G1 plus beating Katie en route to the quarters at Wimbledon - followed by a European Championship semifinal ousting Ana Konjuh.

R2

(Q) Jasmine Paolini (ITA) v (13) Katy Dunne (GBR)
(8) Elise Mertens (BEL) v Katie Boulter (GBR)

First doubles result is a good one. Katy and Katie are on court in the early stages of their matches

Doubles R1

Samir/Wallace (EGY/GBR) d. Renaud/Rodriguez (USA/MEX) 6-4 3-6 [10-8]

Hmm, I see the junior doubles and senior mixed doubles are playing MTBs at one set all. I would have thought a "proper" third set more appropriate for Slams.

Are they also playing no ad ( which I really dislike even away from Slams ) ?

Katie Boulter lost her doubles against the no. 4 seeds (no prob, she can concentrate on her singles !) but the other three girls (including Izzy's result from above) all won:

Dunne/Jorovic (GBR/SBR) def. Austin/McCarthy (USA) 6-3 6-4
Dart/Fett (GBR/CRO) def. Akkerman/Giangreco Campiz (CAN/PAR) 6-2 6-1
Samir/Wallace (EGY/GBR) d. Renaud/Rodriguez (USA/MEX) 6-4 3-6 [10-8]

Boulter/Lushkova (GBR/UKR) lost to (4) Mertens/Soylu (BEL/TUR) 6-2 7-5

Job done 6-3 6-2. On paper at least, that looks like a very impressive result
