Girls: US Open Juniors - Grade A (Week 36)

Will leave it to the experts to do the thread properly, but just to note that Ms Wallace is playing the qualifying tournament. She is seeded 8th. Her first round opponent is Hannah King (USA); the FQR opponent, were she to win that match, would be either Cassandra Vazquez (MEX) or Katharina Jobgarski (GER) [11].

Ms King is a Wild Card. She has a career high of 114 (in 2011), but appears not to have played (ITFs at any rate) since Spring 2012. Injury?

According to a discussion on the Zootennis blog Hannah has been out with a serious shoulder injury. The match is 4th on court P19 with the second just underway - live scores via the US Open site. Harriet Dart scraped in to the main draw as I think no Special Exempts were needed, and thus joins Katy Dunne and Katie Boulter

Due to the length of the first 2 matches (just finished after 6 hours) Izzy's match was moved to P20, and she leads 4-1*. Tom should be on P19 in 20 minutes

Izzy eventually lost 9 games in a row before mounting a comeback, but too late to save the day

FQR: Cassandra Vazquez (MEX) d. (8) Isabelle Wallace (GBR) 7-5 6-4

Main draw is out with Harriet facing the most difficult task against a Roland Garros and Wimbledon semifinalist. Katy and Katie have reasonable looking openers, but will do very well if they progress beyond the third round

Main Draw

(WC) Chloe Michele Ouellet-Pizer (WC) v (13) Katy Dunne (GBR)
(Q) Usue Maitane Arconada (USA) v Katie Boulter (GBR)
Harriet Dart (GBR) v (10) Louisa Chirico (USA)

Harriet is first up (4pm) on court 4 (followed by Fleming/Marray - the only junior match on a court shared by players in the main draws, presumably a reflection on the status of her opponent rather than Harriet having an unusually large US fan base)

Unsurprisingly Harriet is finding it tough going and has lost the first set 6-1

(10) Louisa Chirico (USA) d. Harriet Dart (GBR) 6-1 6-3

Ana Konjuh was in big trouble at 5-7 1-4 but has just won 4 games in a row to turn things round. Colin/Jonny to start in 15 minutes
