How about Heather? What next?

As long as Laura is back for New Haven then things are a lot better than we feared they might be. It would become much more difficult for Laura at the US Open if she doesn't get at least one post-injury match in first.

Might be tiuch and go now for Laura being seeded at the US Open ( hoping she plays in it ! )

She is currently WR 32 on 1580 points. She will drop 19 points after next week ( and that"s what the seedings will be based on ) ti 1561 points. Historically, I think a pretty good total but if some currently outwith the top 32 catch fire over these 2 weeks who knows...

I think she has a bit of leeway - Pavlyuchenkova is defending quarter final points from Cincy which helps. I will certainly be cheering on opponents of any players ranked 30-35 next week though (plus Serena tonight against Rybarikova). Of course would all be irrelevant unless she is fit but makes next weeks tournament a bit more interesting if Heather or Bally don't qualify.

I agree with tony that she has a bit of leeway, as long as Serena wins today Laura should be ranked 31 on Monday, then it all depends on the few players in the 30-35 range next week.

Simon Cambers was saying all things being equal Laura would play New Haven, having withdrawn from Cinci yesterday, that is a big relief. Obviously just a minor problem with the wrist. Playing New Haven isn't that important in the grand scheme of things, so if she does play there it'll confirm she is fully recovered as she won't risk playing at a tournament if there was any risk of her missing the US open.

With regards to the seeding, it does look good, so going into next week, 3 people will need to pass her in order for her not to be seeded, as none of those ranked directly below her are in great form other than Rybarikova, the chances are good.
