RE: Week 32 - WTA Premier 5 - Toronto, Canada - Hard

Laura spoke to tennistv about the wrist problem and here are some of her quotes:

"Well I practised this morning and everything felt fine and then I hit one routine backhand and felt something go in my wrist.

"We're not sure what it is yet, I've got an MRI scan later today. The physio team and I did everything we could to try and get on court but I just wasn't able.

"I don't know what's going on until the MRI but hopefully I'll be able to play next week and in the next few lead-up tournaments to the US Open."

Not sure that sounds great, but just hope that whatever went in her wrist was just minor.

Someone just posted this picture of Laura on twitter, and if you look at it there is an ugly looking protection on her right wrist:

At Niagara Falls I think.  Good for her, getting out and doing something positive. Modern wrist supports always look a bit dramatic anyway. (Comfrey poultice is what she needs really. Works miracles)

Very impressive spot, apparently its not far from Toronto.
Comfrey poultice sounds interesting even if its just for the name !

hey guys,

hope everyone is well.
I see i was caught on the tv or something today. im out here with sloane for a while, for this week, cincy and then the two weeks of the us open and go from there.
Go time for me to recover, earn some money and also be around a great environment and keep my level.
Her coach is not there this week so i took that role, next week i will be the hitter and step in if asked to and needed.
We are getting on really well and she responds to what i say.
I dont have a girlfriend but we are not an item or anything like that, she is an awsome girl and mum is great too.

you all know i do what ever i can to earn some money and try different things. Really enjoying seeing into the top flight of tennis again and experiencing it.

So ill be popping up all over the place im sure over the next month.

That's excellent news Well done for making such a good impression at Wimbledon and for grabbing the opportunity here - it's hard to imagine a more constructive way for you to spend the time when you can't really be playing with full intensity. I see I guessed right too (about what capacity you were out there in, I mean - the less said about the idle speculation, the better! wink)

If she actually responds to what you say, she must be a lot more fun to coach than most of the WTA (I say that only in the sense that most of them seem to totally ignore their coaches after calling for them or give them that 'if looks could kill' stare)

Anyway, have a great time and I hope it inspires you to great things when you have recovered enough to play at full intensity again.

Hi,

Don't know if this is new news but is Fitzy helping to coach Sloane Stephens now?

He just came on to do the on court coaching. Couldn't hear what he said other than you don't need to rush in the rallies but I guess it worked, she just broke in the first game of the second set. Haha.

Interesting.

Fitzy was Sloane's hitting partner at Wimbledon (paid job) and she had a good run.
So maybe she's asked him to come and work with her some more ?

I don;t want to sound the death knell on his playing career but with health issues and serious money issues it seems to me coaching would be a serious career posssibility - I can see Fitzy being an excellent coach (not so sure about Josh G . . . .)

At a guess, I assume she has flown him out to be her hitting partner this week (nice work if you can get it! ) and her coach isn't around so he's filling in when she wants someone to come on during matches. Great opportunity and hopefully he's getting paid decently for it too!

Ok well I'm now officially rooting for Sloane.

(PS Just putting it out there, no basis, but here's us all thinking of him going as hitting partner and 'spare' coach but is it just possible that the two of them are an 'item' ???)

 I agree 100%.

It seems a great plan and really good of you to take the time to let us all know.

As said, I have now added Sloane to my list of 'fave players' - she's an easy player to like anyway !

NB I retract 100% all my gentle gossipy asides !!!! smile

Best of luck for the next few weeks.
