From Anne's commentary on BT Sport - Laura was warming up this morning and felt some pain in her right wrist, but was planning on playing 'like Rafa Nadal' i.e. running round her backhand or chipping it if necessary (don't know if she was joking because that doesn't sound too sensible). Then when warming up 15 minutes ago it didn't feel right and she decided not to play.

Anne also added that the medical staff believe it is probably either a tendon or cartilage issue, which is not good news.
Thinking back her left wrist was in a cast if I remember correctly after the 2010 Aussie Open and she was out for 2 months.
She must be a serious doubt for the US open, and I remember how devastated she was to miss the 2011 Aussie Open.
Her double handed backhand has really improved over the last 12 months, but she is very aggressive with the strike unlike the forehand which is more pure timing. It's probably just a strengthening issue which with the right rest and rehab should be Ok for the future, unlike e.g Delpo's. At least thats what I'm hoping.
Oh dear, I always worry about wrist injuries - I think they can often be moee aerious than first imagined. Hopefully not in this case and it will be sorted reasonably quickly.
Whatever, I think quite right to withdraw, especially if it was bad enough that she was considering doing a "Rafa".
