RE: Week 31 - ITF ($100K) - Vancouver, Canada - Hard

Some highly entertaining points in this match, although Fichman has won almost all of them.

On the plus side Jo has a big first strike advantage, winning several points off both serve and return.

JoKo *4-3 but making life harder for herself with stupid errors when ahead in the point and two terrible volleys in the last two points. I still think she should win quite comfortably though.

I know people have mentioned how uncomfortable Jo looks at the net, but I hadn't seen enough of her to make a judgement on it until this last couple of days.
It's something that I think she's really going to need to work on to make that next step (of course she's doing well as it is).
Fichman has nothing to her game except consistency, whereas JoKo has the weapons but is less solid. Still this match is for the taking that's for sure, come on Jo!

Jo seems to be able to brush off the bad shots at the moment. And there have been some shockers in the 2 games ive watched.

I don't think I've ever seen a player get to 4-5* by doing so little on court

Close this set out Jo

Jo certainly has weapons, moreso than Hev, who is of course trying to work on that.

Needs to become more consistent and that pretty awful netplay is a long standing issue that she clearly needs to work on.

Phew. Was getting a bit worried there. Jo is serving well at the mo which is making life a little easier.

It's ultimately the points you get that matter more than how you get them that determines a match.

So Jo needs to really keep her focus and consistency.

In the greater scheme of things, Jo basically has the game to go much higher whereas such lack of positivity gets found out at higher levels.

Yep in spite of some of the wild errors, Jo's doing the right thing and playing the right way as she can afford to be more aggressive.
Anyway, one set in the bag and one set from her best career win.

I didn't watch last night's match so closely (doing other things too) but I was reminded of your comment more than once during that 1st set. There was a real horror at 40-30 to Fichman in one game when she'd done really well to get an easy volley then put it in the net.

Some big serves from Johanna there to save the game.

I felt that Jo needed to win a longer rally and she comes up with the goods
