Boys: Wimbledon Juniors - Grade A (Week 27)

Incidentally Steven I notice that you just tweeted about Chung "upsetting" Coric and I am confused as to why that would be considered an upset.

Couple of break points for Kyle but a few loose errors and Kozlov holds. Three games in a row for the American now..

More treatment for Kozlov...

Kozlov seriously cramps up after double faulting. 0-30.

Kyle breaks to love. Come on!

Need to put him to the sword now.

Just did some digging on the Korean boy who ousted Nick Kyrgios without breaking sweat. He's only just turned 17, so is 15-16 months younger than Kyle. A fantastic effort so far this week.

Then one realises he is already ranked just outside 500 at such a young age, and you start to take note. His last 4 ITF Futures results were SF, SF, F, WIN!!! You take even more note.

But admit I'd never heard of him, but with that form, he could be more than just a dark horse to come through the top half of the draw, even with Djere and Coric left.

Very confident about today for Kyle, and I'd say he'd be 50/50 for SF and for the Final, given the quality still left. He won't lack for motivation and crowd support!

Dear god, that's the 7th time he's called Kyle a plucky Brit. Give it a rest!

Kyle wins! 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Into the SFs.

Started a bit slow in the first set but once he found his game he started to run away with. His momentum got thrown by the first (of three) times Kozlov had the trainer on in the third set, but kept the pressure up and Kozlov eventually ran out of steam. High quality tennis out there, and Kyle was absolutely on fire in that second set.

I saw Jonny/Kyle's match yesterday, really enjoyed watching the juniors live for the first time!

Most impressed by how small the margins are between some of these players, particularly Jonny and Kyle. It's only one match of course, but in the first set there wasn't too much between them - the odd point made the difference. Thought Jonny had some really solid groundstrokes and wasn't afraid to attack and come forward. Decent serve, OK slice, good return. If he keeps improving and maybe develops a slightly bigger weapon, he could do well in seniors. Again, I've only seen them once though!

I think the junior coaching set up seems really solid. Greg seems extremely committed and they all seem like positive influences.

Wasn't sure whether I should post this but during Murray's match (I was on the hill), I nipped off the use the facilities and literally bumped into Dan Evans who was holding a glass of Pims and drunkenly shouting (or as the kids would say, hollering) at his friends. I got flustered (as you do) and walked on so my interaction was seconds but he did seem drunk and he was definitely holding alcohol. I was pretty disappointed actually. Felt like a real letdown!

I don't have any problem with Dan's behaviour. I mean, he's hardly likely to bump into any British tennis fans, impressionable GB tennis juniors, parents of GB tennis juniors, LTA officials, LTA or other British coaches, tennis pundits, British tennis reporters or journalists from the national press or TV on the grounds of Wimbledon on QF day, so in that sense he is being discrete and in no way deliberately setting a bad example and throwing things back in the face of everyone that has supported him and continues to support him.

What a buffoon!

He knows it's wrong, and his friends know it's wrong......2 weeks ago he failed to win a round at Wimbledon qualies, last weekend he failed to get through qualies for a low level Challenger, losing to a player ranked in the 700s, and this week ciming he's supposed to be playing in a Turkish Challenger, probably leaving today or tomorrow. What's he doing getting drunk in front of the tennis world?

Either he's now made a decision to give up even tryng to make a professional fist of it, having already burnt his bridges with the LTA (and if true, it will come out shortly), or he's actively trying to provoke the LTA and the tennis firmament for reasons we don't know. Either way, I am just speechless.

Thanks. It's always good to hear first-hand reports (the good, the bad and the ugly).

I saw ten minutes of Kyle and Jonny on the BBC stream and thoroughly enjoyed it too - I agree, Jonny seems to have a good, solid game; it looked like a lot was in place. Also, I like what I've been reading about him - seems a mature, sensible, focused young man.

As to Dan, well, there is stupid, really stupid and SO friggin' stupid it defies belief . . .

Kyle and Fred finished their doubles strongly with a fair sprinkling of winning returns, especially by Kyle, to break twice in succession. Their quarterfinal is fourth on court 12

This Kozlov is seriously impressive. Early days yet in this match, but despite his age he seems to have good power in his shots, good variety and made a stunning drop volley in the second game. Apart from a double fault I don't recall any unforced errors either. You would think (and hope) as the match goes on Edmund's experience and fortitude will shine through (how strong mentally can a 15yo kid be?) but he's evidently a very talented player. Certainly one to keep an eye on, and will probably be in the mix for these Slams next year (if he's not this).

It would help if he got his first serve in more often. . .

I can see why Kyle prefers clay...seems allergic to following a big shot in
