to be very honest bob-not really no! i get a bit too emotionally involved. I preferred it when we used to go to tournies when he was a wee boy and win some and lose some but we always had fun. Bit too serious now-happy to leave it to James Trotts, Greg etc to do the worrying. I'll take rafa (my dog not Nadal) for a walk over watching him anytime!
great report steven thanks for that really pleased you found jonnys match so entertaining after all thats what its all supposed to be about and yep i think my wifes pretty lovely too
Thanks Steven - paints a much more vivid picture of Jonny's match than from tracking scores while watching Andy

In doubles today just one winner so far: Kyle & Fred coming through a close encounter 7-5 4-6 6-3 with each set decided by breaks late on. Most of our pairs have lost but Jonny (& Borna ) have split sets whilst Julian and Josh are in a first set tiebreak
Thankfully Julian/Josh deliver a late night win, but the total success in round 1 of 2 pairings is disappointing and less than average here in recent years.

I knew Liz Curran was intending to watch that one too and quickly spotted her so went to say hi. Soon afterwards, we were surrounded by coaches - Greg Rusedski sitting just to our right, Martin Weston just behind us, Beechy sitting on the steps just to our left, Mark Hilton in front and a couple of others (already too long ago to remember all of them!) Liz knows them all of course - a combination of having no shame (I'm joking ) and having been at all the slams last year.
Yeah Liz knows quite a few !! But for me thats 50% of the reason that I love going to all the tournaments, getting to talk to the players/coaches/parents. If you approach someone you soon know whether they don't want to chat, so basically you have to play it by ear. Most of the players really appreciate the support and some of the coaches/parents can talk with the best of them ( not naming names! ). As a result you develop a stronger bond towards those players and you get quite protective when anybody starts commenting about them negatively whether on this forum or anywhere else.
Kyle has indeed been promoted tomorrow for his singles (court 3 though rather than 2, similar time, following an invitation doubles). Kyle's doubles is 4th on court 12 while Julian/Josh are 4th on court 18 so all should be streamed (Quinzi and Coric quarters are also on the streamed courts)
I saw Jonny/Kyle's match yesterday, really enjoyed watching the juniors live for the first time!
Most impressed by how small the margins are between some of these players, particularly Jonny and Kyle. It's only one match of course, but in the first set there wasn't too much between them - the odd point made the difference. Thought Jonny had some really solid groundstrokes and wasn't afraid to attack and come forward. Decent serve, OK slice, good return. If he keeps improving and maybe develops a slightly bigger weapon, he could do well in seniors. Again, I've only seen them once though!
I think the junior coaching set up seems really solid. Greg seems extremely committed and they all seem like positive influences.
Wasn't sure whether I should post this but during Murray's match (I was on the hill), I nipped off the use the facilities and literally bumped into Dan Evans who was holding a glass of Pims and drunkenly shouting (or as the kids would say, hollering) at his friends. I got flustered (as you do) and walked on so my interaction was seconds but he did seem drunk and he was definitely holding alcohol. I was pretty disappointed actually. Felt like a real letdown!

Edmund broken and Kozlov will serve for the set at *5-4. Some of his play has been a bit sloppy, and Kozlov is really on his game at the moment. Edmund definitely needs to find another gear here. He's being outplayed right now.

Gah, Kyle gets break back points but despite dominating on the first one he can't put it away and Kozlov saves both. The young American has great retrieving skills.
Kozlov serves it out, 6-4.
Kyle 0/4 on BP, Kozlov 1/3. Kyle making way too many UEs. Kozlov hardly put a foot wrong.
