On paper that appeared the best chance of a win for the girls today, given Xu's recent form and lack of experience on grass, so let's hope one (or more) of the others can rise to the occasion.
In a strange set the Latvian won 4 games in a row only for Harriet to hit back with another run of 3 to take the first set 6-4 Maia has just started (1-1)
There was a long pause at 1-3 in the 2rd set so maybe a fall?
Did Harriet lose to that girl last week?
No - that was Iryna Shymanovich (who lost 7-5 in the third to Taylor Townsend today) Uberalova lost last week to the player who Harriet beat today (Ostapenko). Harriet beat Krejcikova last week, but she was too strong for Gabi today
(4) Barbora Krejcikova (CZE) d. (WC) Gabriella Taylor 6-1 6-1
Katie Boulter v (6) Elise Mertens (BEL) 2nd match ct 15 (WC) Lana Rush v (11) Karin Kennel (SUI) 2nd match ct 19 (SE) Harriet Dart v (2) Ana Konjuh (CRO) 2nd match ct 4
Quite upsetting about poor Maia's retirement with the sudden onset of blurred vision in her left eye, which started middle of set 2 when the match was still very much hers. The BBC website suggests that this same problem happened to her a week ago off the court, and after a 10 minute lie down, her eyesight was back to normal and she felt fine.
Some things are a lot more important than tennis - and this sounds like something which needs urgent medical investigation to diagnose and take action on quickly. Wishing her a full receovery: fingers crossed it's nothing too serious, completely fixable, and she'll be back playing soon.
