RE: Weeks 26 & 27: Wimbledon (grass) - Andy Murray matches

Oh good lord, it's Castle, Lloyd and Cash commentating! And Castle's just been drivelling about Andy going to Spain as a lad, AGAIN!

Overend, Austin & Henman are giving a highly entertaining alternative on R5L.

Mmm, interesting, the "live" radio 5 commentary is about 10 seconds behind the TV!

Fairly comfortable straight sets win. Into the second week with minimal fuss.

That will do nicely. A comfortable 2 hour workout and on to the L16.

Actually had probably the best live stream I have ever had on Sport Lemon in the 3rd set. Just like watching TV. The is until the final point when it lost signal just as the ball was in the air on the ball toss. I was left hanging so to speak.

Fairly stress-free. And a much more entertaining match, in my opinion, than the serve-and-ball-bash fest that preceded it. If that is the way tennis is heading (again) I'll have to start watching synchronised knitting instead.

Being very much also one of those who actively disliked the bash it serve and volley munimum rally stuff of Wimbledon years gone by, I wasn''t too put off by the Janowicz vs Almagro match. I guess it is because it remains very much an alternative and a little variety can be good, plus Janowicz seems a good personality. I am hopeful there will be no such sea change to radically disturb Madeline's viewing habits.

Efficient from Andy, and I was very impressed how well he was striking the ball from the off, as he commented himself later. Often takes him much longer than that to get so into the groove.

For those of you complaining about the BBC commentary on Murray's matches etc, you should be thankful for what you have got. Stuck here on the far side of the world, all I get is a 90 second update on CNN (without highlights).

They have just done their morning summary and finished by answering a viewer question of "what was the longest and shortest match in Wimbledon history". The answer for the shortest was 23 mins for a match in 1922. And then they said "the longest match was just three years ago lasting over 11 hours and of course that was the match involving Rafael Nadal".

Dear oh dear oh dear !!

L16: (2) Andy Murray WR 2 v (20) Mikhail Youzhny 26 (CH 8 in 2008)

Andy has beaten him twice before, in St Peterburg in 2007 and in Valencia in 2009. Both times he went on to win the title - not surprisingly in one case, since he beat Youzhny in the Final!

Hi Bob.

Try livescorehunter if you have a good internet I've never had a problem and I usually watch in another language so I don't get annoyed by all the drivel.

Ooh I'm looking forward to a feast of tennis today. Laura Robson on Court 1, followed by Andy Murray on Centre.

Er, hang on, I've been looking at TOMORROW's order of play. So these matches will be on when most of the population will be at work or at school, and so can't actually watch. I expect that there must be good reasons for NOT making lots of people happy and creating lots of wealth for our stuttering economy. And for having only 13 days of profitable (in every way) entertainment, instead of 15 like the other slams.

Ah, I get it, it's been like that since 1888. And God says she wouldn't like it. That's OK then.

The reason is respect for local residents.  I'm totally in favour of the 15 days but, thats the reason.

Ratty, I agree 100% (and it's not often so I'm putting it out there!).

This Sunday day of rest thing is antiquated nonsense ( and other words come to mind)

And respect for the residents is drivel too.

Do all other sporting events take Sunday off so as not to disturb the residents ? Or are Wimbledon residents such a fragile petal lot that they can't manage a couple of busy Sundays in the year?

Out of respect for the greater paying UK public, Wimbledon should play on the middle Sunday and the Sports Council should insist they play as part of their funding agreement.

I don't like a day off - I feel you lose momentum and it all has to start again from scratch. But I can see it both ways.

NB Has anyone read the Andy Murray "Champion" biography by Mark Hodgkinson ?

Maybe it needs taking with a pinch of salt, but it's a horrible indictment of the British tennis system, network and the LTA (based, of course, primarily on the situation 7-10 years ago).
