RE: Week 26/27 - Wimbledon women's main draw - grass

This is hilarious, isn't it ...

My guess?

BBC have drafted in lots of people with no interest or previous experience in tennis for Wimbledon & told them to find pics of them from Eastbourne. So they've found pics from Ward v Tomic and Tara v Pliskova and, having no knowledge of British tennis whatsover, picked the wrong player.

That fits, as my guess was that it was Karolina Pliskova

All fixed by the BBC. Presume someone else had already given feedback, becuase otherwise, that's a 10 minute turnaround

They've corrected the rankings too (Tara's was definitely last week's when the pics were wrong, so I imagine the others were too) - quite possible they published a draft or just published it too early by mistake. I stand by my theory as to why the pics were wrong, but maybe they did actually intend to check it. Gave us a good laugh anyway

Ive been thinking with Anne's match TBA to court yet, she will most likely be put onto Centre court to play her match after Andy wins... Does any one feel that the AELTC know something we dont know i.e this might be potentially her last tournament!

Well, she's been a top 50 player for the last 9 years (and top 20 for two or three years of that) -and finished last year st WR 45 - so I didn't quite understand why she was so lowly ranked now (I'm sure someone else has been following it better).

Gulf in class is VERY large today. First set scoreline was flattering to Elena. Ouch!

Sorry to use the word disappointed. Really want her to win too much and didn't expect this.

Bally had all the momentum in the first set when she got it back to 4-5* and was playing some great tennis as Flavia was starting to look edgy. Then at 30-30 Flavia hits one of the slowest second serves I've ever seen, and Bally gets tied up and hits in the net.

That was the point, that was the chance, when Flavia was on the ropes and doubting herself, and she just couldn't get there.

Bitterly disappointed for her, and with her form coming in I really thought she had a shot, but other than that period from 2-5 to 4-5, Flavia was excellent. Draw not as kind as it first looked for sure.

Shame, she was crying at the end. Needs to pick herself up and come back on the hard courts. The fight and the quality is still there, she was just undone by a very classy player.

Sorry for Elena but, yes, Flavia was several levels above.

Huge well done to Monica Puig, 19 years old, from Puerto Rico, who just put out Sara Errani, with great panache.
