Tara saves another match point to take it to a tie break.

Tara so close.
First Kiki in Birmingham, then the doubles there, and now here all: very tight final set losses against much higher ranked opposition, and nothing tangible to show for it.

Hope she doesn't get discouraged. She can clearly live with these players.

Tara takes the second set 6-2

Can she pull off just her second top 100 scalp?

It would actually have been her 3rd - Chang was WR 89 (thanks to Helen Parish for that one - it doesn't show Chang's ranking on Tara's WTA activity page) when Tara beat her in Nottingham qualifying in 2010.

Looks another very good effort from Tara.

Hope she takes much more encouragement then discouragement from these recent matches.

Although ranking points wise her first half of this year looks very similar to her second half of last year ( her ranking essentially rising because she has put together a whole year of decent results ), she does seem to be at a generally higher level this year.

Taras level on grass certainly seems top 100 judging by scorelines and how she played vs Mladenovic. Nerves possibly holding her back from sealing the win, but if she could acclimatize to tour level I think her ranking should certainly improve considerably.

And I checked the WTA results pages so carefully before saying it too!

I'll use the ITF page next time.

Sure she'll have more by the end of this year, perhaps even by the end of the grass court season.

I think that's Heather's second best career win in terms of ranking so a great result.

Vesnina is about a good a draw as Hev could get in R2 at Eastbourne, not at all easy but not bad in such a tough field.

Barring one match at Birmingham, Hev has looked very good on return from illness.

Generally happens if a team win the first set and go behind early in the second that they end up settling for a match tie break and don't put up much resistance in the 2nd set

Looks like Robmond don't quite agree with that  *5-4 smile
