Well done Tara. 14 points is a good start, could use at least one more win to start to cover her concentration of points from summer last year, and thus ensure she continues to move upwards right through to the end of the year.

Mel has Falconi next. I've seen the American about 7 times, and have never been at all impressed. It baffles me how she has got her ranking so high, especially as most of her points came in pretty competitive USTA Pro Series events.

Given the weather we have had this year, slow grass courts might be a theme in the next couple of weeks. Perhaps Wimbledon will be an exception give the extra time and money spent caring for the courts there.
Funny how you get a different perspective watching live: Observations: Tara's match- only saw the final set from 2-1. But more overriding feeling was that her opponent had nothing on her shots but was actually moving ok on the surface. It was a case of Tara being able to extend the rally long enough to put her out of position and eventually get the winner. I was impressed with Tara in the final set, so much better than last year when it was 1/2 good shots and then an error. Bally's match- shocking start but improved but still for me a tad worse than at this stage last year, her opponent was not brilliant but just very steady and very calm and just too strong. Only one come on from Bally in the whole match said it all, disappointing for me. Mels match- didn't see it as I was talking too much but had watched her in qua lies and knew this would be a very tough match and so it proved to be. Annie/ JoKo doubles- not great is being polite but their opponents were very sharp, and it really is all about the singles.
Grass is playing very slow, although even within the same day it appeared to quicken up .
Hev/ Laura update: Hev is fine after last week. Laura's back problem isn't serious, but she will not risk playing next week unless she is 100%, as Wimby participation will not be risked for obvious reasons. Change of surface is the other issue.

I really dislike Mel's attitude, hit the gym.... match point, that wasn't even a hard drop shot to reach from her position. Yet she made no effort whatsoever to chase it down! The girl seriously needs to think about whether she should continue on the singles court, and if she's really serious about it, she needs to GET FIT!

Does she look unfit? Saw her at Wimbledon couple of years ago heavily bandaged on both legs -- looked like return of the Mummy! -- she was unfit in that match
