RE: Boys: French Open - Grade A (Week 23)

GSM Kyle 6-2 6-7(5) 7-5

The tough fight should stand him in good stead for the tournament

Meanwhile unfortunately Cameron has just lost the first set 7-5 to Christian Garin

Piers Newbery @piersnewbery 7m
GB's Kyle Edmund beats Sweden's Elias Ymer 6-2 6-7 7-5 in juniors R1. Big lads, heavy hitters, tough match. Impressed by KE's cool demeanour

Unfortunately Cameron is now 5-7, 0-2 down, having lost five games in a row.

Will certainly expect his next match to be more straight foward, but you never know ...

Cameron did break back, but was broken again twice and loses 7-5 6-2

Next up for Kyle is Aussie Bradley Mousley

Well done to Kyle. And, just to note, Mr. Kyrgios is not having a walk in the park against Master Janvier either - 4-3 the French boy but on serve.

Kyle reverts to the US Open winning team in doubles

R2

(5) Kyle Edmund (GBR) v Bradley Mousley (AUS)

Amusingly the Aussie is actually coached by a Mr Bradley (Milo) and a Mr Mousley (Craig)

Doubles R1

(3) Edmund/Silva (GBR/POR) v Chung/Lee (KOR)
Bambridge/Norrie (GBR) v Tatomir/Zheng (ROU/CHN)

Can't complain about Mr Norrie's performance against someone who's an (outside) candidate for the title. Really hard luck ...

This is an amazingly strong field. Good luck to Mr Edmund in the next round.

i would like to retract my statement of no fear from the other day, after actually looking at the contenders the draw is packed with real quality and futures title's. Altough saying that i am confident in kyle and think he could beat anyone in the draw

ITV ran a couple of brief interviews with Kyle and Luke this morning (less than 1 minute each I'd say), plus a longer discussion with Katy Dunne in the studio. Katy came across as a completely normal 18 year old British girl - sixthformish, giggly (in awe of the situation), very nice indeed.........not the type of impression I suspect a potential superstar would ever give off, but very pleasant nonetheless.

Kyle was his usual matter of fact, grounded, focussed self.

Luke once again came across strongly as lacking confidence and belief (he said this openly). This is the second or third time I have seen him in interviews, and every time I come away with the impression he thinks he's not good enough. I certainly don't think ****iness is ever acceptable (one or two of his peers fall into that trap), but I wish he'd be less obviously down on himself.

Edit: The four stars have appeared where I am being "rude"!!!! It should read c*ck!

When Luke lost his first round match to Nakagawa yesterday, ITV were going on and on about this being a good effort by Luke because the Japanese is a well-known rising star amongst the Juniors. I have to admit I'd never heard him ever mentioned before as a high potential player, his ranking is nothing special, and he's already 2 breaks down in set 1 against Milojevic (who certainly DOES have a reputation).

To be honest it sounded a bit like an LTA "briefing". Does anyone know (perhaps David) anything about Nakagawa that can;t be seen from his ITF page.....which seems to suggest he's an OK player, nothing more.

Cameron and Luke had a match point at 6-3, 5-0 but are now 30-30 at 6-3, 5-2.

They ended up winning 3&3. smile
