Bencic is the benchmark for junior tennis at the moment.

What do you mean, Phil?

Why Bencic....she's good but there are plenty of others I'd put above Bencic. Konjuh, Siniakova, Townsend, for example.

Do you mean benchmark for players in this tournament?

If Korriban has taken your comment as about tennis as opposed to English, Phil you should feel duly chastised evileye, that's a real groan!

(I assume bencic is pronounced benchic!)

Very good question Korriban. Would just like to add that Bencic might be good but the one that's got the "game" with potential seamless transition to senior is Konjuh.

What time is Dunnes match? If the stream is blocked in the UK, it will still be possible to view using an Italian proxy

It looks unlikely that we will be able to see the match. There's no sign of any live scores for the 3 preceding semis and I notice that http://www.supertennis.tv/ is showing a replay of the Madrid final rather than this tournament as advertised, with coverage rescheduled to start at 2.30pm BST - which suggests rain, as yesterday.  If that is so at least one of the 4 semis will probably have to be moved, and as Katy's match is last (the schedule is visible in the programme line-up) it's the most likely casualty.

I was trying to find out who the last Brit to do this well here was and failed dismally (I probably should have just asked David) but I see that only 2 British girls (and no British boys) have ever won the singles title here - a certain Virginia Wade in 1963 and Winnie Shaw in 1968, whose married name (Winnie Wooldridge) I vaguely remember hearing some years back.

Not one I knew the answer to immediately, but having looked at drawsheets I discover that although we have had a few quarter-finalists (including Laura Robson) the accolade goes to Martin Lee who reached the final in 1995, losing to Mariano Zabaleta

Can you find out who the last British girls' semi-finalist/finalist here was? (feel free to ignore - I realise this is a bit like the Count asking me for a difficult to find stat that I can't really be bothered to research but then feel like I have to wink)

The ITF only have drawsheets from 1990, and it hasn't happened since then. I'm just going out for a few hours, so can't look into it any further.

Although there are 2 past GB girls champions, it wasn't a top-grade event until 1978.

Don't worry, you've already gone well above & beyond the call of duty, thanks!

Not to be unfortunately, but a great week which will earn her a seeding at Roland Garros. Bencic had a w/o in the other semi which presumably helped the organisers deal with the delay

SF

(15) Darya Kasatkina (RUS) d. (12) Katy Dunne (GBR) 4-6 6-2 6-2

Bah! Still it's been a great week for Katy and should fill her with confidence heading into Roland Garros.

The other semi-final was declared a default, rather than a walkover or a retirement. Wonder what happened???!!!!

Double entendre, first and foremost a little jokee, but also based upon the fact she's a top class junior and probably a couple of levels above Katy.
