And, as an aside, you can't help but smile a little at the mess the NZ federation made.

There are lots of reports how the authorities are 'hanging their heads in shame' and investing heavily and doing everything they can to get a top-100 player - and yet they had one in the making and ignored him

And especially when I read somewhere that, when being ultra selective and not going for Cam as one of their two or three hot picks, they chose the daughter of one of the bigwigs instead....

That sounds like something the LTA would do

Cam was a big miss for the Kiwis but people migrate all the time for opportunity and GB is lucky to have the resources it has. Hopefully there are on going negotiation with Joanna Garland and her family. Pragmatism is definitely the way forward to grow a solid core of players at the highest level representing GB

I know it grates with some but the son of one of our ex big wigs is looking like a decent prospect, his other son less so and therefore in college, I think it is a question of looking underneath as many stones as you can.

I have no criticism whatsoever of Norrie for moving.

Nor of the LTA for reaching out to him. As you say, its a fluid world.

I hope they've made overtures to Evan Furness (he won't move at the moment but may well do in a few years).

My amusement was at the NZ

As to children of bigwigs, I agree that Jack seems a kosher top prospect. The fact that he's had general advantages way above those of others is just a fact of life. And, if he warrants being a top pick now on merit (as he does), then that's that, he is, end of.

However, it grates that the Drapers accept the charity grants (the £1,000 Sports Aid grant):

As per The Sun (it was covered in other newspapers too but that's the one that comes up first )

"Baroness Angela Billingham, vice chair of the all-Parliamentary tennis
group, told SunSport: This is extraordinary and unjustifiable. His son is a good player and I wish him well.

But Jack has already had every privilege in life, with access to the national
tennis centre and top coaching. It rubs salt into the wound when you consider the state Roger Draper left
British tennis in."

And that's not the fault of the boy either, of course, but the parents/system.

Back on Cam, I realised yesterday that he was born in South Africa. Like Kyle. So thanks to the South African hospital and midwifery system for delivering two healthy lads !!!

Cameron Norries grandmothers funeral took place yesterday.
I have fought the last two weeks so hard for her - and I think she would be proud, he has just said, in tribute.

I never knew the lady but she would, Cam, she would.

It'll be good once the grass court season is over for these guys. WCs are all well and good if the experience of playing a top player is beneficial, but bad for point collection.
