Cam has the 5th fastest serve so far in the mens singles, 138 mph

I had never realised he had such a big serve, the others are all those you would expect, perhaps Thiem surprises me a little.

Glitch in the radar. He tops out around 120

What a shame it is the last ever, it is one of the future opportunities that exist to see top singles players of both sexes playing together in mixed doubles. I am a bit conflicted by the GB selection in that it is great for Cam and Katie in terms of their development, and indeed like Andy they may also be idealigically wedded to the concept.

From a different perspective I would have liked to see Kyle and Jo play together as a mark of respect for the format, I know others disagree but I feel strongly that there is imense value in seeing teams of the best available men and women doing their best together. It sets tennis apart and is a unique role modelling opportunity for the sport and society in general. Generally at club level, particularly with the juniors unless it is a competition defined by sex everyone gets on with it and plays against opponents of equal or similar ability.

One advanced adult session I do is dominated by a 13 year old girl who is in an academy performance squad (where she is very good but perhaps not the best..... but she may well be) however regular thrashing a group of adults male and female playing together keeps tennis in perspective, sorry got side tracked and slipped into the why clubs are good for juniors in academies discussion.

I know players will drop out but that is a very strong line up. Cam and Katie will benefit from some top opponents

Cam will have a new career high when rankings produced on Monday. His previous best was 66 but he will be 64 on Monday (unless McDonald wins Newport Beach in which case 65). A good time to do so as he has made main draw of Indian Wells.

Good to see; he appears to be playing the South American clay swing, or at least a couple of events, next which should harden his game. Indian Wells and Miami often prove slow surfaces (compared to Australia) so it may help him (despite being clay v hard) for those events

Looking at some stats:

According to tennis abstract, cam is :

- the "best" (highest ranked) player currently to not have won a single Masters 1000 level match

- the 4th highest ranked player currently to have never reached a Slam last 32...

Not sure I am pointing anything specific out here other than an interesting stat, but heh

All I have to say about those stats above, is that it would be much more illuminating if they could be compared against the same players first 2 years on the pro tour. Has Cam even done 2 full years on tour yet?

For younger developing players I dont think it means much, he will in the balance of probabilities get much better over the next 4 years as he learns how to manage the circuit, its all new at present. More a marker of what to expect this year as he ticks them off
