Three top 8 seeds lost in round 2 headed by second seed Jasmine Amber Asghar (out to a French qualifier), while Holly Thompson and Eden Richardson removed the non-Brit 4th and 5th seeds. Freya again needed 3 sets to progress

Emily lost out to the Romanian ninth seed (disappointing as Emily beat her convincingly last week) preventing an all-British quarter-final

QF

(1) Maia Lumsden v (WC) Holly Thompson
Eden Richardson v (9) Karola Patricia Bejenaru (ROU)
(7) Katie Dyson v (3) Freya Christie
(12) Anastasia Mikheeva v (15) Pippa Carr

Eden unfortunately gave a w/o, and the other 3 matches went as expected to the higher ranked player. Last week Freya overcame Nastya at the semifinal stage, after a tight first set. Will there be a repeat tomorrow?

(1) Maia Lumsden d. (WC) Holly Thompson 6-1 6-0
(9) Karola Patricia Bejenaru (ROU) d. Eden Richardson w/o
(3) Freya Christie d. (7) Katie Dyson 3-6 6-2 6-1
(12) Anastasia Mikheeva d. (15) Pippa Carr 6-4 6-3

SF

(1) Maia Lumsden v (9) Karola Patricia Bejenaru (ROU)
(3) Freya Christie v (12) Anastasia Mikheeva

The answer to my question was an emphatic no, as Nastya comfortably gained revenge to make her first G4 final. This sets up a rematch with Maia, who won in Malta en route to the title

SF

(1) Maia Lumsden d. (9) Karola Patricia Bejenaru (ROU) 7-6(4) 6-4
(12) Anastasia Mikheeva d. (3) Freya Christie 6-1 6-2

F

(1) Maia Lumsden v (12) Anastasia Mikheeva

Maia seems to be settling well into ITF events since her orange bowl win. Her last 3 events will now be win, sf and final or win which is brill considering she's only 15! Judy Murray seems to really rate her

To be fair i thought by now all 3 of Jazzi, Maia and Gabby would be top 100 or there abouts. Maia and Gabby with a bit of work to do. Jazzi looks like needs to re-build her confidence

Not for the first time this week Nastya finds a way to reverse a previous defeat and claim a maiden ITF title

F

(12) Anastasia Mikheeva d. (1) Maia Lumsden 7-6(4) 4-6 6-3

Think it was maybe asking quite a lot for all 3 of the 98s to be around top 100.

At least Maia is in position to replace most or her Nottingham points from last year that dropped off last week, so will rebound back up into about the mid 300s. Gabi, now at 194 should move up a little after her G2 QF this week.

With Gabi and Maia having nothing at all to defend now until October and maybe playing quite a lot more ITF tournaments than they have relatively played in the past, they should certainly be moving up over the coming months with Maia in particular clearly having much scope for big strides forward ( this week will only be her current second singles counter over 15 points ).

Jazi ( JWR 117 and nothing to defend until July ) has clearly shown real ability, but her game has dropped off for the moment. Probably no huge concern yet, but I just hope that she can refind her best game / confidence asap.

Great stuff by Anastasia, looks to be making real strides.

That should have her on the verge of the top 500 from a very limited schedule so far ( I make her onto 95 points, same as Maia was at the start of the week, as JWR 502 )

Oops, Gabi will still add a few points this week, but from a L16 rather than QF. Still pretty good considering that L16 loss was in two TBs to the no 1 seed and JWR 26.
