RE: Week 12 - ATP Masters 1000 - Miami, USA (Hard)

woohoo.gif6-3 6-1. Tomic seemed to forget how to play after the first few games.

Shameful performance from Tomic in all honesty. He had break points to go 3-1 up in the first but he missed them, was broken to love in the next game thanks to 4 unforced errors and after that showed absolutely zero fight. The first break in the second set came about from 3 double faults and a missed overhead.

Impossible to judge Murray's performance against such a pitiful opponent.

Disgraceful effort. Not Andy's fault, but the crowd were well within their rights to boo Bernie.

His second last service game was embarassing! Just grow up Mr Tomic.

Dimitrov up next for Andy as Bolelli retires in the second set.

Just as well to save energy. The potential Tsonga/Berdych/Djokovic run at the tail end of the draw, if he gets that far, is about as tiring as one can get with Federer and Nadal out of the picture.

The following tweet from Andy's mum. Is it just me that thinks a player's parent or coach should never comment about an opponent with anything that might be controversial or embarrassing. Not nice at all. Or probably badly judged.

judy murray @judmoo 6m

Watched Tomic The Tank Engine with Greg Norman today. I can confirm we use the same hair dye.

Agreed. If someone here had said it I might have applauded, but Judy shouldn't be saying it.

Maybe it would have been wiser not to write it, but she was hardly coming out with something new. Tomic has had the "tank engine" tag for quite a while now, and it's widely used on tennis forums.

My first thought was Judy probably just thinks she's using his standard nickname (it is, isn't it?) but all hell's going to let loose with people determined to think it's more sinister than that.

Having a look at some of the replies on Twitter, that's exactly what happened. Apart from someone Spanish (I think) not getting the significance of the tank bit and saying it was wrong to suggest Tomic had an engine (i.e. that he played as if he couldn't get up the energy) - David Law later reported that Tomic has been a bit under the weather since yesterday.

It may well be a common nickname for Tomic and we all know that folk on twitter can ( and do ) often overreact.

But, in my view ( and I do like Judy ), she has been extremely silly to tweet that. She has never struck me as some innocent abroad.

I am sure Andy will love her for it - not !

Definitely no innocent abroad, but prone to tweeting things that people could take offence to if they are determined enough to do so - e.g. all her F-Loppy stalking (which does make me a bit queasy, I must admit, but is clearly all in fun), all her cake-eating when you argue she should be setting a better example, etc, etc ... she doesn't make it hard for people to have go at her, and I must admit I rather respect her for just being herself and not caring too much what anybody else thinks ... plus it's obvious she's good at her job(s) and her irreverant nature is probably part of that.

Of course, I'm sure you're right with the last bit - the one thing that did worry me about it is that if Tomic gets told this in a "Murray's mum has been slagging you off" context, there's a good chance he'll be a lot more fired up the next time he plays Andy. Or we could get another del Po moment LOL

Andy apparently all over the place this evening:  two service breaks apiece, but he eventually took the first set on a tie-break (7-3).
