Continuing misery for Jazzi Plews, sustaining a second straight sets loss on this tour today (according to the tournament's Twitter feed). That just leaves Harriet Dart in the running for the fruit, and her opening match will be against someone who has won a handful of matches in ITF Futures events.

R2
(14) Harriet Dart (GBR) v Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia (COL)
A good win for Harriet this afternoon, but she now has to deal with the young American prodigy who accounted for second seed Beatriz Haddad Maia today

(14) Harriet Dart (GBR) d. Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia (COL) 6-4 6-3
R3
(14) Harriet Dart (GBR) v Tornado Alicia Black (USA)
I vaguely remember that they faced off in the Maureen Connolly last year, Harriet winning in a topsy turvy match.
Well remembered - 1-6 6-0 6-3 (I had to look at the Maureen Connolly thread though, as this had slipped my memory ). Tornado remarkably reached the semis of the Brazilian Grade A last year while still 13, so is clearly at home on the local clay
Tornado gains revenge. There will at least be a British winner (and loser) in the doubles later today, where Jazzi and Harriet are on opposite sides. Harriet has teamed up with Christina Makarova, a frequent opponent or partner of Brits in recent months, as second seeds.
