Buayam/Sun (THA/CHN) v (4) Dunne/Makarova (GBR/USA) Dart/Hsu (GBR/TPE) v (2) Lottner/Routliffe (GER/CAN)
In singles Katy is in the top section, where top seed Yulia Putintseva (WTA 122) withdrew. However the player benefiting from that Elizaveta Kulichkova was ranked as high as 3 a few months ago, so wouldn't be a much easier proposition, assuming they both win tonight.
It wasn't a great day in the doubles, but here's a report on the singles match, which reveals that Katy's target for the year is WTA top 700 (not particularly ambitious, but certainly achievable). Katy lost in 3 sets to Kulickkova back in 2011
Thanks for the game by game updates Reeltime. Katy commented that her serve had let her down. Apparently her plans include "coming home to rehab and hav a fitness block, then the 10k's in the uk probably" I guess that means the 4 tournaments starting in Cardiff at the end of February.
The Croatian won both the U18 Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl titles back to back at the end of 2012 as a 14 year old, and has now advanced to the semi finals of the AO without dropping a set. I believe of all the top seeds, she is the only one who didn't bother to play the warm up junior tournament in Oz the week before. She's 15 now albeit less than a month ago. And she has also reached the doubles semi.
Sounds a bit like Laura back in the day, although if anything she seems to have an extra level of consistency to win efficiently week in week out. That's 16 matches in a row won against 16, 17 and 18 year olds. Hope I haven't jinxed her!!
As well as Konjuh the two Brit-slayers (Kontaveit and Kulichkova) have both reached the semis without losing a set. The only chance of a non-K winning is the one player who has dropped a set - Siniakova (and even then her first name is Katerina )
