Girls: AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International, Australia - Grade 1 (Wks 2/3)

Just 2 Brits here for the Australian Open warm-up - Katy Dunne with a fairly good draw and Harriet Dart with a fairly tough one.

R1 (L64)

(11) Oleksandr Korashvili (UKR) v Harriet Dart (GBR)

Ellen Perez (AUS) v (9) Katy Dunne (GBR)

This really doesn't look promising. From Katy's scoreline, looks like she was not fit to play. Fingers crossed its just a bug, rather than an injury or something more serious. Otherwise Katy could well be on the plane home. For both Katy and Harriet, the Junior AO looks like a very long shot indeed! A lot of our juniors seem to have good runs for a month or so, followed by very patchy form. Until 1998 age group, there's noone who you would single out as clearly having a shot at making it big on the senior tour. Thats a long while to wait, and even there its only 2 or 3 players. Katie B crashed out of the G2 in Slovakia in round 1, after pulling out of the AO qualies.

Katy sustained a hip injury last month and was a doubt for the trip. Whether that was a cause of the retirement I don't know, but at least she and Harriet were able to play doubles today - though they lost.
