This may seem like looking a gift horse in the mouth ... but Haase, Sousa, Berankis, and an injured Simon may not be the best way of playing yourself into a tournament (though Berankis did reasonably well). Doesn't really compare with Davydenko, Karlovic, Baghdatis, Cilic (Wimbledon); Wawrinka, Nieminen, Baghdatis, Almagro (Olympics); or Bogomolov Jr, Dodig, Lopez, Raonic (USO).
Simon did a press conference today and said he will be playing the match against Murray. He said that he wasn't actually injured against Monfils but that he was cramping everywhere, especially his arm and leg. He had been ill recently and has had problems with his neck and back so has done very little preparation for this season, hence his fitness problems. He said he had 4 hours of treatment after the match and didn't get to bed until 5:00 in the morning.

That is a bit of a concern but I would rather an easy path than being stuck in a fifth set like Djokovic is at the moment.
I can;t believe everyone was writing off the Fed before the tourney; saying it's going to be Nole's and Andy's year; Federer looks ominous. Amazing how he stays so motivated.
(Edit- I hasten to add "everyone" means the Media!)
