RE: Weeks 3-4 - Australian Open (men's)

I did manage to stay awake for the match (just). It really should have been 6 1 6 1 6 1 - Andy served for the first set at 5 1 and was broken, and served for the match at 5 1 and was broken again! I bet Mr Lendl has something to say about that. Still, hardly a Murraycoaster, losing just 7 games.

Should be interesting to see next few rounds: if Mr Murray gets past Mr Sousa, wonder whether it will be Mayer or Berankis next ... and the Monfils/Dolgopolov highlights video is a lot of fun to watch. Will Monfils be able to get the consistency to get through to the 4th round? When he's "on," he's certainly very on.

Yes, tough for him that he should be only one of the top men to have to play during the peak heat tomorrow: JMDP and Federer have the evening ... as did Djokovic today ... and Tsonga at least is on first. (Ferrer also got a difficult slot, but then schedulers rarely give Ferrer the respect he deserves). True, Sousa is hardly a name opponent, and one can understand the Federer/Davydenko match taking priority, but JMDP and Becker? At least Hisense is one of the courts with a roof, is it not?

I think so.

I won't be able to watch this, it starts too late. Normally I would try to stay up but I am fairly exhausted with hospital visiting, and need to get up early to get my wits together so I can safely drive in the morning. I can only watch on livestreams so can't try to watch in bed. So good luck with the heat, Andy, I'm confident the opponent won't cause TOO much trouble to you.

No way I can stay up for this. Hopefully it will be a straightforward match for Andy.

Nice to "see" you Madeline - I hope your husband is making progress.

Very comfortable win 6-2, 6-2, 6-4

Nothing special but did everything that he needed to.

Serene progress, never troubled, in front of about a two thirds full Hisense.
Perhaps they're all over on RLA where the last Aussie hope, Tomic is struggling.

Routine win... Next is Berankis, potentially tricky, but erratic.

Good lad, Andy. Keep it up. I woke up several times in the night and wondered how it was going - checked teletext on the spare room tv in the early hours

The schedule hands us another potentially punishing, late night.

Andy is third up after midnight, on RLA

However, the two preceding matches are Azarenka & Serena's singles, so they might take less than an hour each.
Still be middle of the night though, however you look at it.

Also potentially clashes directly with Laura, who is also third up after midnight in her court.

Another one I will have to miss. I managed to watch a re-run of Andy's match yesterday at 8.15pm on Eurosport Player - hopefully I can do the same again.

Both Vika & Serena given more trouble than most anyone would have thought, so later than expected perhaps, but Murray up soon.

Meanwhile, Delpo lost the first set, and is great danger of losing the second, 3-5 down. Could be good news for Muzz there. And, Chardy does indeed go 2 sets to the good

Murray winning 67% behind his own first serve against a player ranked outside the top 100 is abysmal. That's marginally better than Heather manages against a modest opponent. Lucky to hold just then, Berankis had a straightforward backhand down the line for the break, only to put it long.

One more game needed. Broken to 15 serving for the match. Can't say Berankis doesn't deserve another break.

Chardy knocks out JMDP. Should have done it in 3 but wasted several chances at 0-40 midway through the third so needed 5 sets. Seppi beats Cilic in 5.

Can Andy serve it out this time ?

Much better serving gets him the win 7-5.
