RE: Week 1 - ATP 250 - Brisbane, Australia - hard

Meh. Andy will have to do without me again, I really can't cope with that sort of timing any more. I won't be devastated if he doesn't win - he needs to avoid injury just before the AO, while Dimitrov, who has never won a single title, may well be prepared to go to the limits as his chances of winning the AO are pretty small.

I understand your point but I really would like to see Andy win a few more titles this year. Obviously last year was a great success but overall he only won 3 tournaments and I would like to see him win a fair few more than that this year. I would of course take a couple of Grand Slams and nothing else but I am sure you get my point.

Well I'll take a few Masters, rather than a 250 - and he already has 150 points from that. . .

Don't get me wrong, I do want him to win. Preferably to win really easily. But if he doesn't, I won't break my heart (as I did at four slams!)

I think Andy is a number 4 based on his losing to weaker players, something the other top 3 do much less. Winning this would send a little message that 2013 he is going to be right up with them.

Good morning all!

Doubles match over! I'm assuming presentation is almost done so Andy should be on soon.

I think this'll be a really good match.

FINAL: (1) Andy Murray WR 3 beat Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) WR 48 by 7-6(0) 6-4

Last year was the first time since 2007 that Andy failed to defend an ATP singles title but he has made up for that as quickly as possible this year!

This is his 25th ATP singles title overall and his six defences (unless I have missed any) are:

San José 2006/7
St Petersburg 2007/8
Doha 2008/9
Canada Masters 2009/10
Shanghai Masters 2010/11
Brisbane 2012/13

Great news to get up to this morning.

Sounds like a hard fought win against a rapidly improving opponent. It also sounds as though Andy's mind may have not been fully focused given his reference in the post match interview so good to battle through and win.

As for Andy's friend, I don't know who you are, but like Andy, I wish you well.

I did creep into the spare room, where there is a tv, and check teletext immediately on waking this morning! Well done, Andy. Good start to the year.

It's always nice to wake up to a Murray win. As has been said earlier, hopefully this is the first of many tournament wins this year.
