RE: Girls: 51st Junior Orange Bowl - U14/U12 (Week 52)

R3

(17) Theo Gravouil (FRA) d. (3) Jazzi Plews (GBR) 6-0 6-3
(8) Maia Lumsden (GBR) d. (17) Rafaella Baquerizzo (ECU) 7-6(4) 6-2

R4

(17) Gabriella Taylor (GBR) v (17) Claire Liu (USA)
(WC/9) Zhanlan Wei (CHN) v (8) Maia Lumsden (GBR)

Jazzi's defeat is no surprise (having lost to Theo last time), but the scoreline is disappointing. It often happens that young players who go on long runs struggle for a while once they lose. She was picked out by Colette in the under 12s here 2 years ago as one to watch, so playing in the USA shouldn't be a factor

Gabi continues her fine form, but has to tackle the top seed next: Dalma Galfi beat Katy Dunne earlier in the year in a G4 final, prompting the latter to describe her as a future Wimbledon champion, and was a finalist in the European Championships but her recent form has been patchy.

R4

(17) Gabriella Taylor (GBR) d. (17) Claire Liu (USA) 6-1 6-3
(WC/9) Zhanlan Wei (CHN) v (8) Maia Lumsden (GBR)

QF

(1) Dalma Galfi (HUN) v (17) Gabriella Taylor (GBR)

A super scoreline for Maia. She has problems with players who can overpower her, and few Chinese players come into that category.

R4

(17) Gabriella Taylor (GBR) d. (17) Claire Liu (USA) 6-1 6-3
(8) Maia Lumsden (GBR) d. (WC/9) Zhanlan Wei (CHN) 6-0 6-0

QF

(1) Dalma Galfi (HUN) v (17) Gabriella Taylor (GBR)
(8) Maia Lumsden (GBR) v Nikolina Jovic (SRB)

Good stuff, two girls in the U14 semis.  Gravouil ( Jazzi's R3 conqueror ) there too, so be interesting to see how Maia gets on against her.

Blimey! That was quite thrashing Maia gave the No 9 seed.

Superb win by Gabi and emphatic one by Maia

QF

(17) Gabriella Taylor (GBR) d. (1) Dalma Galfi (HUN) 6-3 6-1
(8) Maia Lumsden (GBR) d. Nikolina Jovic (SRB) 6-1 6-1

SF

(17) Gabriella Taylor (GBR) v (5) Fanni Stollar (HUN)

You get your wish - they both won in straight sets smile

The only British girl to reach the final here before was Jo Lewis in 1981. No idea what happened to her, but her conqueror Manuela Maleeva went on to reach world number 3

WOW

Great stuff indeed. Maia seemed to have been in a little slump so good to see her kicking ass again and Gabby, just brilliant.

I'm getting very excited about these 3 98's
