Straightforward for Katy yesterday, who beat her second round opponent 3 months ago in two close sets. The rematch should be on court around now, but if successful she will face a very tough match against top seed Taylor Townsend or Dutch star Indy De Vroome (Townsend has taken the first set on a tiebreak)
how are you getting live scoring? or have you got someone out there watching?
Welcome to the board
No live scoring and this is a difficult tournament to even get results from very quickly. ITF and USTA will update all results sometime overnight. Before that it's a case of finding the odd result from Twitter (eg top seeds Townsend and Quinzi have won, so we know who Katy and Luke will play if they have won) from players, coaches or observers. Unfortunately I don't see any tweets from likely suspects about the 3 Brits playing today.
That's a bit of a blow for the boys, Luke has been stateside for a long period now, did well in the futures so maybe this a couple of tournaments too many.
A good tournament for Katy with a respectable scoreline against the world number 1 today, and still going in the doubles. On the subject of live scoring there is a junior tournament with live scoring this week, but bizarrely it is the Grade 4 event in Croatia rather than this one.
R2
(13) Katy Dunne (GBR) d. Veronika Kudermetova (RUS) 6-3 6-4
R3
(1) Taylor Townsend (USA) d. (13) Katy Dunne (GBR) 6-4 6-4
Overall the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl tournaments were very disappointing for our boys and girls - perhaps only Katy Dunne acquitted herself reasonably well, going deep in the doubles, and putting up a fair fight against Taylor Townsend.
Elsewhere, I had expected (or had hoped for) much more from Luke, a little more from Jazzi and a surprise win or two from the others over the 2 weeks. Desperate luck for Eli Dean once again - I'm sure we are all keeping our fingers crossed that she recovers fully from her long term injury dramas. I'm not really sure about Evan - he was very much the third member of the winning junior Davis Cup team (although he did pick up a few wins along the way), and can possibly consider himself fortunate to be part of that Cup success, and then receive full Team Aegon funding for 2013, possibly off the back of it.
Jazzi and the other 14 year old hope from the US, Tornado Black, both found the jump to U18 grade A/"big" grade 1 tournaments a step too far for them at this point, although Tornado also got very tough draws.
Ana Konjuh, another 14 year old (15 just after Christmas) won both tournaments. She started slowly at Eddie Herr (no doubt getting used to the conditions), getting better and better, beating the world #2 on the way. By the Orange Bowl she was flying, only dropping 1 set in her 6 matches to the world #1, and dominating the world #2 in the final.
The Croats (and Marzi!!!) said she was a world beater, much better even than Donna Vekic, and it looks like they were right. WHAT. A. PLAYER!!!!!! She's only 2 months older than Jazzi and by all accounts has a killer serve, exceptional power, great dropshots, and can do this with excellent consistency. And apparently Siniakova (world #2 finalist at the OB) commented that she regularly employed a heavy backhand slice to great effect as a surprise tactic on Sunday, to which she had no answer.
Isn't Konjuh a British sounding name - I mean its similar to Konta, so I think we need to check her heritage fast and talk to the passport office!!!! Hope she plays Wimbledon so we can take a look.
