It is actually Djokovic beating Berdych in straight sets that leaves Tsonga with a chance ( if that result happens first or if Murray vs Tsonga is on first )

Oh well that theory was derailed then( apologies ). Still think Tsonga's confidence is so low that Andy will win in straights anyway. We shall see !!
I guess there remain only 5 possible qualification orders, so could base it on that :
eg. 1) Djokovic 1st, Murray 2nd : if Djokovic and Murray both win, or Djokovic wins and Tsonga wins 2-1, or Murray wins and Berdych wins 2-1
2) Djokovic 1st, Berdych 2nd
etc.
But that to me is much more complicated to take in than the ATP's 10 and Steven's very similar but neater 8, giving all possible qualifying scenarios based on the 2 results. And will especially become clearer once the first result is in.

They've split a couple of pairs of scenarios they don't really need to split (i.e. 4 & 6 could easily be combined as could 9 & 10) but the only way some people are managing to summarise it in just 4 scenarios is if they only consider who qualifies without worrying about who finishes in 1st place or if they only list the possibilities that lead to Andy qualifying.
At least the ATP have got them all correct anyway

So Djokovic beats Berdych 6 - 2 7 - 6 (4) after Berdych bows out by missing a number of set points on the tiebreak.
Might have been a bit better for Andy if Djokovic had won in 3 rather than straight sets, and put Tsonga out the equation for reaching the semi finals ( see earlier discusion re Tsonga motivation if he was out of contention )
Either way, Andy would just need a set to finish 2nd, but straight sets for Djokovic means Tsonga gets through himself if he wins in straight sets tonight rather than puts Berdych through.
Andy should though still be getting the win rather than just the set that he needs.
First set won 6 - 2, so that's Andy into the SF in 2nd place.
I did though mention in the doubles thread that ( I think rather bizarrely ) you don't actually get any ranking points or prize money purely for reaching the SF, you just get it for winning matches ( in the group and then the SF and final ) so keep it going !
I loathe and abhor round robins. I've always thought the scoring system in tennis to be one of the most beautiful mathematical designs. Round robins turn it into a total free for all. Grim.
Looks like Andy might have decided a third set too much off an effort thought.
Yup, takes the TB 7-3. He'll have to cut out the sloppy play (admittedly only in parts) in the semi, though, he made a bit of a meal of the second set.
Delpo beat Fed in 3 sets, so he qualifies along with Fed, but we have to wait until this evening's match to see which of them gets the top of the group and plays Andy tomorrow. I think Tipsy has to beat Ferrer (yeah right! - unless he has recovered from his virus and the Duracell Bunny is getting tired) for Delpo to be top of the group.
Del Potro beats Fed 7 - 6 (3) 4 - 6 6 - 3 so both qualify for the semi finals.
But with the joy of round robins ( or at least the rules for this one ), hmm, the order they now finish in the group will not be down to them, but the result of a match between 2 players who have no chance of reaching the semi finals.
If Ferrer beats Tipsarevic. Federer wins the group and Del Potro is second based on the sets % tiebreak among the 3 players on 2 wins.
If Tipsarevic beats Ferrer, Del Potro wins the group and Federer is second based on Head to Head between the 2 players on 2 wins.
Personally I'd take Head to Heads out of it ( yes, in some circumstances more chance of then going to games, but still... ) i.e. in this case Fed would win on best sets % and Del Potro would be second, whatever. But I guess it keeps us interested in the final match to see who Andy will end up playing tomorrow.
OK. Ferru beats Tipsy, so it's Andy v Fed tomorrow, at 7.45pm. No BBC coverage of that semi - wonderful. Thank the Lord for tennistv. I would of course MUCH rather watch the match on a little monitor than the big tv. . . but at least my other half will be glad I won't appropriate the tv.
