Starting chuntering aagin didn't help when Andy had momentum at  5 - 4 *   30 - 15  and was really just unlucky at the net court / drop shot / slip point.

C'mom  5 - 6 *

PS : I don't like yellow either for tennis players, used to always be happy to see an opponent wearing yellow since I felt it unlucky somehow.

40 - 15 *,  c;mon !

Drat. Played much better in the dark shirt, too, as soon as he put on that white/yellow top things started to go pear-shaped.

He must beat Tsonga now, and the fact that match with Djoko was so close should help if it comes down to a count-back on sets and games.

Edit - I expected somebody else to have posted by now that Andy lost 5-7 in the third.

In one way I'm looking forward to today's round v Djokovic, in another I'm terrified. We know Andy can beat him if he plays well, but will he? I'm laying in a supply of tranquillers, defibrillators and cushions just in case. And the cat had better hide.

showing on BBC2 now.

A Castle, saying Djoko after 5 games had only scored once off Andy's serve and that was a df.
Andy 4-2 up.

...err, and possible qualification for the semi finals !  ( if he beats Andy 2 - 0 and Djokovic beats Berdych 2 - 0 ).  I agree though that even if he falls out of contention for SF qualification, a guy like Tsonga could still be dangerous for the reasons you give and just the guy he is.

As I said before, it could get complicated with this result. They could all still qualify or miss out, and Andy could finish 1st, 2nd or miss out.

Standings  ( with matches won, sets won and lost, and games won and lost ) :

Djokovic      2   4 - 1   30 - 23

Murray        1   3 - 3   29 - 30

Berdych       1   3 - 3   29 - 27

Tsonga        0   1 - 4   21 - 29

Tiebreaker if level on matches won :

a)  If 2 tied,  head to head result.

b)  If 3 tied ( and that could be on both 2 wins or 1 win )

   i)  % sets won   ( and then head to head if that reduces to 2 being level )

   ii )  % games won   ( if 3 still level after b )  i )  )

Hmm, pity,  Djokovic wins  4 - 6  6 - 3  7 - 5.

Very good quality match most of the time, buta few too many uinexpected loose shots at times.  Good positiveness most of the time and it was certainly Djokovic that put in more running, but he is so commited to getting every ball back.

And the chunter chunter often, not unusually, at seemingly random times when he's lost a point through bad luck or actually good play by his opponent. It's generally much better, but it still remains to me counterproductive at times. Focus !  cry

I still think Andy will get through, but now much more likely in 2nd place.  So apart from today costing him 200 points ( well 400 really if you take it directly against Djokovic ) it would quite likely mean a semi final vs Fed rather than say Duracell Ferrer who apart from being generally preferable anyway, must run out of gas at some point surely.

Just got home to see the last two games. It looks as though it was another close match - I have it recorded, so must try and find time to watch it.

So if Tsonga beats Berdych tonight, the match between Andy and Tsonga will determine who comes second ( Novak would beat either on head to head for first place even if he lost to Berdych ).  That's the more straightforward final match scenario.

If Berdych beats Tsonga, it could potentially be rather complicated on Friday....so let's not bother unless it happens  smile

Allez Jo, then. I prefer him to Berdych anyway.

I look at it another way if Tsonga wins tonight he will be a tougher opponent for Andy on Friday, if he loses he will have nothing to play for.

Yes, that all looks right to me.  At least there is no way that 3 can be tied on matches won and also % sets sets won and it come down to games.

Which given how long it took the ATP to work that one out once before may come as a relief to many folk !

I remember a couple of weeks back Sam Stosur having nothing to play for in a similar situation ( I know Berdych could beat Djoker in straights but highly unlikely ) and she had a shocker( beaten 0 and 3). justsaying

I actually think both Nole and Andy will win in straights for what its worth.
