Easily the best result for Broady this year. Her best in fact since, when ranked 209, she beat Arantxa Rus (81) in Q32 at Linz in October last year.
Naomi hadn't even won a single set since July!
This is the first time in 2012 she's come from a set down to win - she's lost matches after winning the first set 8 times this year, so nice to get one back!
Consider my flabber well and truly gasted. So pleased for her.

Been out all day and just caught up with the scores. Read through the comments here in order so although 1 out of 3 was about par, it seems like a good day with Naomi getting an unexpected win after disappointing results for Tara and especially Anne. Certainly not a predictable set of scores.
Even tougher for Naomi tomorrow but she must be feeling so much more confident after two excellent wins.
In answer to who saw that coming for Naomi, err so not me. But great to see. Now for beating the no 2 seed in R2 she gets a higher ranked opponent, and opponent very much on the up, in the QF, bah ! Be tough, but all the best to her.
Can anyone explain why we have a French speaking interview on the LTA site ? After a shocking French O level result it is fair to say I don't understand a word of this interview.
Ah, I was hoping a little school French and knowing the context of the match they are talking about might make it relatively intelligible to at least a few people.
What amazes me is that a French interviewer bothered to turn up - it's not like there were any British interviewers in Ismaning or at any of the big French ITFs. At least, I assume it's a French interviewer - if it's a Brit who can talk French who is asking the questions, their French accent puts mine to serious shame! LOL

Super fh from Naomi but unimpressive after that as A holds to 15 1-1
A couple of ues from A as Naomi holds to love 2-1*
Comfortable hold for A 2-2
Naomi at her worst, starts with a df, only lands one first serve, wild backhands, broken to love 2-3*
One super bh dtl winner from Naomi but next point she has control then doesn't go for the kill, A holds *2-4
Naomi's first serve goes missing again. She saves 2 bps but another woeful fh and she is facing bp again, broken 2-5*
Nice drop shot from Naomi in amongst more wild groundstrokes 2-6
Naomi below 50% first serves in play, winning 70%
--
Naomi saves 2 bps with volleys, eventually holding 1-0*
Easy for A 1-1
Naomi aggressive bh dtl as she holds to 30 2-1* Expected a lot more aces and unreturned serves from Naomi
Naomi has 0-30 then faces 3 2nd serves but never attacks, then twice at 40-40 2nd serve nothing from Naomi 2-2
Finally some attacking shots from Naomi as she holds to love 3-2*
Naomi attacks some 2nd serves, unlucky to see one called just out 3-3
Better from Naomi really going for her bh holds to love 4-3*
A getting far more unreturned serves than Naomi 4-4
Naomi gets away with a terrible drop shot, a careless fh from A, and an ace as Naomi holds to love 5-4*
A gifts Naomi the first point then recovers to hold 5-5
Horror game from Naomi, just one first serve, df, as she is broken to 30 5-6*
Out of nowhere Naomi has 2 bps, they are saved but an aggressive bh earns her another and a super forehand takes it 6-6
Naomi's first serve goes missing throughout the tiebreak. A generously gifts her a couple of points with poor forehands but a df then a forehand long from Naomi 2-7
Overall a strange performance from Naomi. Very few points won through big serves, some super backhands, first serve percentage seemed low to me, lots and lots of moonballs whenever she was in trouble. AB wasn't that impressive in the 2nd set making numerous unforced errors. Her first serve went missing in the middle of the 2nd set and only Naomi's passive returning enabled her to hold until serving for the match.
In truth it was difficult to understand Naomi's strategy in this match.

Anne/Tara, the last GB representatives of the week, have just begun their doubles, *1-1 Now up a break *4-2
Keothavong & Moore wrap up a pretty straightforward first set, 6-2
Also a break up in set 2. *2-1
Probably over-interpreting things, but without the inevitable piling of pressure and frustration upon herself that singles has brought her recently, and able to share the burden, Anne looks as though she's enjoying a match for the first time in a while, which is really nice to see, because it's been missing.
4-1* looking good.
And indeed it is good, in fine style and seeming to enjoy playing together. 6-2 6-3

Poor quality for the most part from what I have seen, Beck is not playing well but Naomi can't take advantage. Either too many errors or too tentative.
