And broken, far cry from yesterday's brilliant display.

Don't write the Broad off yet breaks back to 6-6.

But, breaks back with an excellent short angle forehand to clinch it.

I've seen Beck play 8 times this year, and Naomi is playing better against her than many higher ranked opponents have. 6-6

TB

Naomi's first serve completely deserted her at 5-5 and in the tie-break. A decent effort from Naomi and overall a really good week for her after struggling for so long.

Beck rediscovered her brickwall status in the TB and was too strong winning it 7-2. Still though much better from Naomi this week, so at least some confidence regained going into 2013.

I have to say for the most part in the 2nd set Beck was well below her best before finding much better form in the TB.

GSM Beck 7-2 in the 2nd set tie break.

Two great wins for Naomi, but coming up against a highly promising player, she couldn't continue her run.

I suppose it's totally unrealistic to expect her to go from not winning a set of tennis for over four months to beating Annika Beck in her hot form. Beck seems to have a way, like Ashe vs. Connors at Wimbledon all those years ago, of making her opponents doubt their normal games and play bewildered tennis at times. Distinct form the diamond hard, and elastic defenses of say Wozniacki or Radwanska. Oprandi may be ranked 58 or so, and Beck only seede 5, but I have her as my #1 seed, and favourite for the title.

But, it's so good to see Naomi at least getting back to some sort of form, after this year looked like an almost complete write off after Shrewsbury. Her R2 win here was very fine indeed in both result and content. Here's hoping she can tap back into that, because when she's on, she's very effective, and also, from my point of view, good to watch.

Well done, and hope she can build from here

I agree about Beck being favourite for the title. I think Oprandi might have been beaten yesterday. I have watched Beck live, and she only stands out as an average player, but she must have something in her game as you say that upsets her opponents game.

Anne & Tara's WD SF has just begun on live stream.

*Ahem!* not the best of starts... 0-4*

*Ahem!* not the best of sets... 0-6

They did lose 4 of those games only on the decisive deuce points though, so perhaps there's hope still

Or perhaps not - Set 2... *1-4

Come on, at least prevent a second baked product of any kind!

Yay! Just the single bagel/breadstick it is then, small mercies and all that. 2-4*

In truth, the scoreline doesn't lie. Our girls seem very flat and lethargic today whilst Dolonc & Amanmuradova are playing decent doubles tennis together.

Tara & Anne lose another decisive deuce point game, *2-5

Saved one MP, but a DF on the second, and another lost game on the deuce point, and a merciful end to a pretty unedifying display - all over in about 40 minutes!

Credit to the crowd who tried hard to get in to the match and gave them good support in spite of everything.

1-6 2-6
