A question for DavidC. Does Katie Swan feature on your radar, and how does she compare to the likes of Jazzi, Maia and Anastasia?

Katie's only just turned 13, I think. She looks like another great junior!

Jazzi won 6-3 6-0. Do we know where she might be playing next?

Well she is down for the Grade 4 in Brazil next week, but I wouldn't be surprised if she pulled out. After that I don't know, but the most likely options in chronological order are:

1)    Play one or two 10Ks in November (either Britain or Spain, where she is based most of the time)

2)    The late November/early December North American swing (Yucatan/Eddie Herr/Orange Bowl). Her ranking will give her direct entry to the first main draw and possibly the other 2, though going through qualifying would be no bad thing.

3)    The COSAT circuit of Grade A/1/2 which starts at Christmas. She will get into all of these, and be seeded at some. There's usually one or two top Europeans who choose this route, preferring to play on clay, gain experience and often plenty of points, since there aren't that many strong Latin Americans on the girls side who are likely to be playing these until the last few weeks

4)    The short European indoor circuit in January (Grade 1/2) which involves less travel than the other junior options.

5)    Australia (Grade 1/A) in January. Most of the top juniors will be here and Jazzi would have to qualify for both events probably. This would be a big step-up from any event she has played up to now.

Katie has been on my radar ever since she won a major under 10 tournament in 2009 (Smrikva Bowl - following Eleanor Dean's success). Her progress seemed quiet for some time, but she appears to have progressed significantly this year, and reached the under 14 National final. I have only seen snatches of Katie on YouTube, so it would be unfair of me to try to make a comparison. You may find the following article of interest if you haven't seen it

She clearly has ambitions to be a top pro, but it remains to be seen how the distraction of hockey and demands of school work (at a Grammar school now) affect these

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that article before. I help coach at the athletic club mentioned and know the fitness coach very well. He's told me about her athleticism (from what i hear, her arm speed is so fast that it could be good enough for her to become a top javelin thrower), so was interested to hear how her tennis ability compared.
