The second Brazilian Grade 3 sees the dangerous Carolina Alves again in the same half (but not same quarter) as Lana Rush. Jazzi Plews appears to have the better draw in her quest for a fourth consecutive title, but both have straightforward looking starters
She's doing well. Has anyone here seen Konjuh play? I hadn't realised she is also 14.
I haven't seen Ana play but I've heard a bit about her and she certainly seems to have a lot of potential, having raced up to number 12 as the youngest player in the top 100 (just 5 days too old to be a 1998). The only time I can recall her playing a Brit was when she thumped Maia Lumsden 0 & 1 in the 2011 Les Petits As .
Lana has moved past Harriet Dart to be the British number 5, but won't be making much progress this week unfortunately. Her first round opponent may be better than I gave her credit for, as although this is only her second main draw win in juniors, with a loss to a non-seed last week, she has won a match in a $10K

Jazzi again makes serene progress. She may be tested more by her next opponent, but it looks as if they have abandoned hope of playing singles today because of rain. Despite the seedings indicating otherwise Jazzi would be top seed based on this week's ranking

Although rain prevented any singles action yesterday they did progress the doubles through to the finals, and Jazzi/Lana sealed their place emphatically with a double bagel in the semis. A grade 3 doubles final is the best either have achieved so far in their career
Jazzi's record goes to 28-1 for the year, and a rematch with Alves. Carolina like Jazzi has moved into the top 200 and is therefore the highest ranked player that Jazzi has faced in ITFs. Win or lose Jazzi will be well inside the top 150 thanks to her remarkable consistency against weaker opposition, having already won more ITF titles than Laura Robson for example. It is double-edged though as if she now uses her ranking to enter the top tournaments she has no experience of playing top 100 players to draw on (Laura for example converted to higher grade tournaments early on, so although she rarely won tournaments she quickly gained experience from tackling top juniors), so adapting to a higher level of tournament/opposition will be challenging.

A great run of results. I don't think it's that much of a worry that a 14 year old hasn't had much experience against top 100 player's yet. Laura was (still is) 2 years ahead of the normal development curve - she pretty much went from grade 4 to grade 1/A.
P.s. Is everyone else getting errors left right and centre on the ITF site lately?
Very exciting stuff from Jazzy. With Eleanor going very quiet, it's nice to have a girl with some fantastic potential to follow in the Juniors. Looking forward to seeing how Lana/Gabbi/Maia/Anastasia progress in 2013 too.
