Boys: 14th Serbia Junior Open Novi Sad - Grade 2 (Week 37)

The second of the Serbian Grade 2s saw Josh Sapwell cop a tough draw against the strong Russian who defeated Jonny O'Mara in last week's semi. The other 3 have all progressed easily to round 2 though

(7) Peter Ashley (GBR) d. Alexandru Buzelan (ROU) 6-0 6-2

Alexander Sendegeya (GBR) d. (WC) Marko Todorovic (SRB) 6-1 6-2

Jonny lost to one of last year's top TE14s tweeting enigmatically: "Lost a bad one today, struggled with myself and controversy.". Peter renews acquaintance with the German he lost to in the TE14 Masters 2 years ago

R2

(7) Peter Ashley (GBR) d. Alexandr Chepelev (RUS) 6-4 6-0
(4) Robin Stanek (CZE) d. Alexander Sendegeya (GBR) 6-4 6-1
Alexander Zverev (GER) d. (3) Jonny O'Mara (GBR) 7-6(4) 6-4

QF

Johannes Haerteis (GER) v (7) Peter Ashley (GBR)

Peter avenged his defeat by the German to earn a crack at the strong 4th seed, who hammered Liam at the Australian Open and who has cruised into the semis here. There will be a Brit in the doubles final, as Josh and Alex are on opposite sides in one semi

QF

(7) Peter Ashley (GBR) d. Johannes Haerteis (GER) 6-1 2-6 7-5

SF

(7) Peter Ashley (GBR) v (4) Robin Stanek (CZE)

As expected Peter also found Stanek too hot, but a semi here takes him near to the top 100

SF

(4) Robin Stanek (CZE) d. (7) Peter Ashley (GBR) 6-1 6-1

Doubles Final

(4) Sendegeya/Windahl (GBR/SWE) v (3) Haerteis/Miedler (GER/AUT)

I think this makes him one of the youngest in the top 120. Something like 5th youngest. That's fantastic given his slow start to this year.
