RE: Boys: US Open 2012 - Grade A (Week 36)

Why have they cancelled all the matches when the main courts are playing? Seems bizzare.

Difficult with the weather, but I rather like that they're trying to keep the singles "pure" and just progressing the doubles.

And well done our guys !  smile

Very nice wins all around. In QFs, B/B get Kyrgios and Thompson (surprise, surprise); Hoyt/W-H get Nishioka/Panta-Herreros; Edmund/Silva get Krueger/McDonald.

Feel for B/B. Playing Peliwo/Uchida and then Kyrgios/Thompson one after the other on a single day was a very tough ask. They did well under the circumstances.

A nice win for the eighth seeds. Good that at least one (partial) GB pairing made the SFs.

They aim to play rounds 2 and 3 today, and Liam has made an excellent start taking the first set against Pollanen 6-1. Kyle and Josh should be on courts 11 and 4 respectively fairly soon (preceding matches are in the second set)

As a reminder:

R2

Herkko Pollanen (FIN) v (13) Liam Broady (GBR)
Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN) v (12) Josh Ward-Hibbert (GBR)
Kyle Edmund (GBR) v Shotaro Goto (JPN)

Liam 6-1 1*-2

I was just about to post that Liam was down a break, but took a phone call, and when I came back to the computer he had just broken back *4-5

The break Liam went down was the first breakpoint Pollanen has created (Liam 3/6)

Liam 6-1 5-5*

Better still Liam breaks again (to 15) and will serve for the match at 6*-5

Liam went down 15-40 but 4 points in a row does the trick - French qualifier Maxime Hamou awaits in the third round later today, having put out the top ATP ranked junior Thiago Monteiro

Good for Liam. Let's hope the others can follow suit.

Kyle's underway: 1*-1
The match before Josh (Laura's R1 opponent v the new Swiss miss) is deep in the third
