RE: Boys: Canadian Open Junior Championships - Grade 1 (Week 35)

Convincing performances today (assuming the website has the scores the right way round) to guarantee a British finalist

QF

(7) Liam Broady (GBR) d. (13) Jordan Thompson (AUS) 6-0 6-4
(12) Kyle Edmund (GBR) d. Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN) 6-2 6-2

SF

(7) Liam Broady (GBR) v (12) Kyle Edmund (GBR)

was watching Liam's first match the other day, reminded me what a good timer of the ball he is on his day...it's a shame he seems to have lost a bit of focus recently, hopefully this week will give some confidence anyways

Broady and Edmund don't play one another in the Semis. Hopefully they will play one another in the final.

Yes, you are quite right - I was going from memory without checking the drawsheet, and it was Josh not Liam in the third quarter doh

SF

(1) Filip Peliwo (CAN) or (9) Hyeon Chung (KOR) v (7) Liam Broady (GBR)

(3) Nick Kyrgios (AUS) v (12) Kyle Edmund (GBR)

Really liked Liam's tweet earlier

"Won in quarters today 6-0 6-4. Hopefully playing wimby champ, French open RU and Auzzie Open RU Peliwo (CAN) tomorrow"

I don't think I am understating things by saying that the last year has been a massive disappointment from Liam but in the grand scheme of things all that matters is what he has learned from it.

Thats quite a good stream. I thought I'd done with following tennis tonight, but..................... looks like I may have to see this out

Reckon Laura would win against either of these boys.  What do you think?

Shame the organisers can't afford a few ballboys/girls. The lads have to spend time collecting their own tennis balls.ashamed Suppose they should be grateful there's an umpire and linespeople.wink

Liam wins the 1st set 6-3.smile

He was down 0-4* after a catastrophic run of 8 lost games in a row from 2-2* in the second.

Unfortunately won't be an all-British final. Liam gets his wish though, and plays the Wimbledon champion. That will be on court sometime between 7.30 and 8pm BST I estimate, and streamed (Link on page 1). Currently they are showing one of the girl's semis between a Canadian (Zhao) and Liechtenstein's finest (von Deichmann). The Canadian is 4-2 up in the final set

SF

(1) Filip Peliwo (CAN) v (7) Liam Broady (GBR)
(3) Nick Kyrgios (AUS) d. (12) Kyle Edmund (GBR) 7-5 6-0

Good start for Liam who holds then breaks to love, but 2 doubles (one a second serve foot fault) enables the Canadian to break back

2-1*

Liam's pulled this final set back from 2-5 down, let's hope he can now go and win it.
