Well, they've just announced they are evacuating the stadium (not just suspending the match) due to a tornado warning, so maybe he has a point?

I guessed that might be why, but the Spanish commentators haven't worked that out yet.  They are still bemused.

Actually, to argue against myself, I don't think the conditions were any worse than Andy's match. However, they can see how far away the rain is, and because it is a dangerous storm, they need to stop the match early enough for the crowd to stand a chance of getting home / to safety.

Fifth year in a row that the US Open will end on the Monday. If that happened anywhere else the world there would be outrage.

Perhaps the US Open should be moved to a more suitable city.

All in all, it was a shame for Ferrer. Conditions were really working in his favour.

I guess in windy conditions, a low centre of gravity rules !!!

I don't think Ferrer will be too upset. He basically gets to play the match tomorrow starting with a one set lead.

I couldn't understand why they didn't play the semis on Friday to give themselves a spare day in case of bad whether, or if things worked out, both semi finalists would have had a day's rest to prepare for the final - which is obviously the showpiece.

Gutted, hope Ferrer won't lose focus overnight.

Obviously wishing for a 4.5 hour epic tomorrow with Ferrer coming out on top.

Actually I really wouldn't want to see that. As desperate as I am to see Andy win a slam I would hate it to happen in a final where one player had been so obviously disadvantaged, especially a player in his first slam final as Ferrer would be.

You mean exactly as Andy was disadvantaged in 2008. It's the exact same scenario.

I would be glad of the W, as Nadal and I think Djokers have been in that situation (ie disadvantaged) and still won the slam.

Probably didn't make myself clear on this. Yes Andy was disadvantaged in 2008 just as the winner of Djokovic/Ferrer will be this time. Not ideal but these things happen. There is however a difference between being disadvantaged and being so disadvanteged that you can't put up a decent fight in the final. The difference between Djokovic/Ferrer playing 2 hours tomorrow and playing 4 hours would be absolutely huge. Seeing Andy cruise to a comfortable win over a shattered Ferrer would feel a little hollow.

It may seem a little hollow to you but I'm at the point now when all I want is Andy to win a slam. He's made it to so many finals and semis that he deserves his luck. Fed and Rafa have had their share of the breaks in slams too. What a brilliant thing it would be for anyone who loves British tennis.

I think in one way, this may be an unfortunate slam for Andy to win.
Middle of the night in the UK, with only Sky holding the TV coverage rights, means it will be undervalued and under exposed.
Sure, people will be delighted, and appreciate the maginitude of the achievement, but, as has been proved, with various boxers, Phil Taylor, in darts, the T20 World Cup cricket win et al.
If it's not on terrestrial universal television, and prefereably at a reasonable time, then the effect is lessened somhow.

Unfortunate that this year, when BBC did Aussie Open & Wimby, and ITV took the French, that Andy might win the one that's reserved to a small group rather than open to everyone.

Still, take anything he can deliver, with the knowledge that he's also bound to win one of the others soon, and everyone will get to see it!
