There's a long tradition of Britain playing the USA at women's tennis, starting in 1923 with the Wightman Cup. It has largely been a masochistic exercise, and the Wightman Cup was discontinued in 1990 following a number of one-sided contests. In 1973 a junior version started thanks to the Maureen Connolly Brinker Foundation, and has continued in different guises, with various age restrictions.
This year it is an under 18 match, taking place on Thursday and Friday in parallel with the culmination of the WTA tournament in New Haven (mirroring last year in Eastbourne). Teams of 5 are taking part as follows in 8 singles and 4 doubles matches:
GBR
Eleanor Dean, Katy Dunne, Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter and Anna Brogan
USA
Victoria Duval (WTA 565), Jennifer Brady, Katerina Stewart, Alicia Tornado Black (top ranked under 14 in ITF juniors) and Nicola Frenkel
Lucie Ahl, Claire Curran and Judy Murray are with the British team, and Judy is blogging regularly at

She's going to take alot of living that down methinks !
Lucky girl . It may have been "only" the mixed doubles ( and my negative views expressed before the event re its worth didn't change because Andy and Laura medalled ), but all the same an Olympic medal is something to be really treasured.

Jennifer Brady (USA) d. Katy Dunne 6-0 6-4 Harriet Dart d. Nicola Frenkel 6-3 7-6(2) Victoria Duval (USA) d. Katie Boulter 6-4 6-1 Anna Brogan d. Katerina Stewart 6-1 7-6(2)
Boulter/Dunne d. Frenkel/Stewart 7-5 6-3 Black/Brady (USA) d. Dart/Brogan 6-3 6-1
Would have thought that Duval and Black were good enough to ensure US win overall. Good that there's a nice even scoreline for the first day. Well done to the GB girls!
It gets even better as Katy defeats their top ranked player 6-3 4-6 6-4 to make it 5-3 (Anna currently on court 2-2 v Frenkel and Katie up shortly against Brady: live scores via the WTA website: New Haven)
