Unlike with the girls there are a fair sprinkling of ITF top 300 players in the under 18 draw, headed by Scott Clayton, ATP ranked Nicholas Jones and Peter Ashley. Our top 5 will be on their way to Canada this week for a Grade 1. Lewis Roskilly and Julian Cash are the top seeds in the under 16s whilst the trio of Jay Clarke, Sam Ferguson and Daniel Bennett, who formed our team for the Junior Worlds in Prostejov, are the top seeds in the under 14s. All draws are on the LTA website
Second seed Nicholas Jones was the main casualty when the seeds played their openers in the under18s. He lost 3 & 0 to John Thompson, while Josh Sapwell saw off 11th seed Samm Butler. Third seed Daniel Bennett retired against Jack Burkill in the under 14s
Scott Clayton, Peter Ashley and Clay Crawford ensure three of the 4 top seeds reach the under 18 quarters, and are joined by Joshua Sapwell who beat another seed (Sam Hutt). No big surprises in the under 16s or under 14s, the latter having reached the semis
