Week 32 - ATP Masters Series Toronto - Hard

Assuming Andy does still make it out here he will play a qualifier in round 2 and after that it would probably be Raonic in round 3, Isner in the QF opponent and Berdych or Fish in the SF.

For those unaware Federer and Nadal have both withdrawn from this event.

Second round opponent will be either Flavio Cipolla (ITA) WR 97 or Jurgen Zopp (EST) WR 82

OEM seems to be under the impression that Andy will play here. If he wins the event he would move above Nadal in the world rankings but would then have to retain his Cincinatti title to have any chance of staying there for more than a week.

After so many top level withdrawals, I wonder if the organisers have been able to offer higher-than-usual appearance fees to the 3 players who were still involved in the Olympics on Sunday!

I'm not expecting Andy to go far here; I understand he has commitments in the UK on Monday, so he has very little time to fly to Toronto and prepare for his first match on a totally different surface on Wednesday. I hope also that they don't put him on every match in the full heat of the day, as they did 2 years ago!

Confirmed that Andy will play here.

Hopefully he can do well, the transition from grass to hard is probably not the most difficult and he does have a nice draw.

Will be tough this week for sure, just about getting the right prep for the US open now.

Andy's first match will be against Flavio Cipolla after the Italian crushed Zopp 1 and 2.

And it is scheduled for not before 3pm local time tomorrow, on the main court. I make that 8pm here, but my time zone computations are frequently wrong. . .

definatly right! was in toronto the other week and unless they have changed recently it is still 5 hours behind us! we were actually orginally going to go this week on holiday so a bit gutted we didn't otherwise i would be seeing the olympic champion.

also fun fact for everyone, our andy isn't too popular over there because all the poster advertising the rogers cup had federer, nadal, djokovic and raonic on them but no murray!

Unsurprisingly Djokovic v Tomic was chosen for the night session. I would imagine that if Murray gets through his third round match against Raonic will be played on the night. However the night session starts at midnight BST which isn't too bad for us.

Hardly surprising that Raonic displaced Murray - I gather they've already named a grandstand after him. So Murray's not the only person who can be placed under pressure by his country !

i was in toronto the other week on holiday and he was definatly the main attraction, my aunt said that canadians just think murray is dull and boring and raonic apparently has a good personality, think that oppinion changed a bit after wimbledon though
